Job Description

We are looking for a Social Media Sub Editor with 2–5 years of newsroom experience to join the Social Media team. This is an editorial role.

The role is work-from-office and is open in the Chennai, Bengaluru, or Kochi office of The Hindu. The ideal candidate will be passionate about digital storytelling, have a sharp news sense, and be able to create engaging content tailored for social platforms.

Responsibilitie s:

n

Create and publish compelling content across major platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, WhatsApp), aligned with the brand’s voice and messaging.

n

Write error-free headlines and captions; edit content for accuracy, clarity, and impact.

n

Develop a mix of original, curated, and user-generated content using text, images, and short videos.

n

Plan, schedule, and optimise posts to maximise reach and engagement.

n

Track news and trends; coordinate with reporters for breaking news updates and identify opportunities to leverage trending events.

n

Moderate comments and online conversations in line with brand and community guidelines.

n





Analyse performance metrics (reach, engagement, conversions) to refine and inform content strategy

Desired Skills:

n

Hands-on experience with social media publishing tools.

n

Knowledge of digital content trends, analytics, and platform best practices.

n

Ability to write crisp, engaging headlines and captions.

n

Basic understanding of multimedia formats (images, reels, short videos).

n

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, or related field.

n

2–5 years of experience in digital content editing or social media roles.

n

Experience in media, publishing, or newsroom environments is an advantage.

n
