We're not hiring. We're drafting.
5D Web Studio is building a bench for a multi-year, public-sector digital program in Canada. Drupal. Azure. A compliance bar most agencies can't clear.
This is not your everyday job post, and we don't want your everyday application.
Here's how it works. You apply. We screen hard. You make the roster. When the program calls, you get called up. And a call-up is not scraps of hours: it is a guaranteed, months-long, full-time engagement with a start date, a release date, and premium pay for premium performance.
First seat we're drafting: Technical Lead / Solution Architect (Drupal + Azure).
What this seat owns The end-to-end solution architecture on Azure: App Service Linux containers, managed MySQL, Blob Storage, Redis, Front Door. You design it, you defend it in front of the client's IT function, and then you operate what you designed.
Every environment as code. Bicep in a version-controlled repo, four environments rebuildable from their definitions, and the CI/CD pipeline between them. There is no separate DevOps engineer on this program. That is the point of the seat.
Hands-on senior build. This is not an architect who left the code behind: through the build window you are one of the developers.
Identity federation over SAML to a government identity provider, and integrations that link to systems of record instead of rebuilding them.
Disaster recovery designed, runbooked and rehearsed. Then the cutover itself: rehearsal, DNS, go-live. Your hands.
Multilingual delivery including non-Latin scripts, WCAG 2.2 AA as a contract term rather than an aspiration,
and performance engineered for low-bandwidth, high-latency connections, because that is what the users actually have.
The bar, in years
10+ years building web platforms, at least 5 of them owning architecture end to end.
7+ years of Drupal, including at least two Drupal 8, 9 or 10 builds you carried from blank architecture document to production go-live as the accountable technical owner. Multilingual builds count double.
3+ years running production workloads on Azure: App Service, managed databases, an edge service like Front Door, and monitoring you actually read.
Infrastructure as code you wrote yourself. Bicep preferred; solid Terraform accepted if you can switch without a mourning period.
SAML or OIDC federation you have delivered, not watched. Threat modelling you have sat through, STRIDE or equivalent. Penetration test findings you have remediated under a deadline.
You can write an architecture document a government IT department will accept, then sit in the room and defend every decision in it, in plain language.
You have personally executed a cutover to a live public service, and you can tell us specifically what went wrong and what you did about it. Everyone who has really done one has this story. That is how we know.
Who makes this roster
Moves fast. Solves problems. Owns outcomes.
Communicates so clearly the meeting ends early.
Zero hand-holding required. Low ego, high standards.
Comfortable being judged on output, not effort.
Straight talk about the structure. On-demand contract work on a serious program, not a 9-to-5 with a foosball table. Remote-first, but you can hold at least four hours of daily overlap with North American Eastern Time, because this seat sits with the client's IT people, not behind them.
When the program calls, you commit to one contiguous full-time block, roughly five months, and you are released on a date we name up front. First call-up window for this seat is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to award, which is exactly why we are drafting now: when it fires, we move in days, not weeks.
One more thing, because the compliance bar is real. This seat gets named in a formal public-sector submission, resume and all, and once named, substitution needs the client's written consent. So the person we draft is the person who shows up. Your claims will be checked to a procurement standard: references who take the call, credentials that verify, and an honest answer about how you use AI tools, because on this program AI use is governed, not winged.
To be considered: send your resume and one short paragraph about the hardest thing you've ever shipped to
[email protected], subject line "CALL ME UP - Tech Lead."
No cover letters. We can tell everything from the paragraph.
