Principal Robotics Simulation EngineerROS 2 / Gazebo / Autonomous Systems — Equity OnlyWe are looking for an exceptional Robotics Simulation Engineer with deep production experience in ROS 2 and Gazebo who has built complex physics-based simulations for autonomous robots, autonomous vehicles, or comparable robotic systems.
? Join Furtual — Building the Future of Pet TechnologyYou will be joining a 12-engineer robotics and software team developing the next generation of pet technology.
Furtual is building an advanced robotic pet platform combining robotics, AI, computer vision, sensors, autonomous navigation, immersive interaction, and pet behavioral technology.
This is an opportunity to join the engineering team early and help architect the simulation infrastructure that will support the robot from development through real-world deployment.
⚠️ Equity-Only PositionThis is currently an equity-only position. There is no cash salary or hourly compensation at this stage.
The position is intended for an engineer who believes in the long-term vision and wants to participate in building the company alongside the founding engineering team.
Your contribution will be compensated through equity in Furtual, subject to the Company's equity agreement and applicable vesting terms.
⏱️ Only 15 Hours Per Week — Flexible ScheduleThis is a part-time commitment of approximately 15 hours per week.
Your schedule is adaptable. You can organize your working hours around your existing professional commitments, provided that:
- Approximately 15 hours are contributed each week;
- Agreed milestones and deadlines are met;
- You communicate effectively with the team;
- Critical meetings and collaboration are accommodated when reasonably necessary; and
- Your work maintains the quality expected of a senior/principal-level engineer.
We care about results, not when you sit at your computer. ? This Is NOT an Entry-Level ROS PositionWe are specifically looking for someone who has actually designed and deployed sophisticated robotic simulation environments.
We are not looking for someone who has simply completed ROS/Gazebo tutorials or built a basic simulated robot.
You should understand the full simulation stack—from robot modeling and physics to sensors, perception, localization, navigation, control, and hardware/software integration.
The ideal candidate has experience comparable to engineers working on:
- Self-driving vehicles
- Autonomous mobile robots
- ADAS
- Robotics R&D;
- Advanced robotics simulation
- Industrial autonomous systems
- Other complex autonomous platforms
- Required Expertise
- ROS 2 — Expert level
- Gazebo / Gazebo Sim — Expert level
- URDF / Xacro / SDF
- ROS 2 TF / TF2
- ROS 2 topics, services, actions, and lifecycle nodes
- Nav2
- SLAM / localization
- LiDAR simulation
- RGB/RGB-D camera simulation
- IMU simulation
- Odometry and sensor fusion
- Physics engines and collision modeling
- Robot dynamics
- Differential-drive / Ackermann / custom robot controllers
- cmd_vel / Twist / TwistStamped
- ROS 2 Control
- Sensor noise and realistic sensor models
- Simulation-to-real (Sim2Real)
- Docker / Linux
- Python and C++
- RViz
- rosbag / simulation data pipelines
- Debugging complex TF and sensor problems
⭐ Preferred ExperienceExperience in one or more of the following is highly desirable:
- Autonomous vehicles
- Self-driving technology
- ADAS
- Autonomous mobile robots (AMRs)
- Warehouse robotics
- Quadrupeds
- Drones
- Industrial robotics
- Aerospace robotics
- Safety-critical autonomous systems
Experience with CARLA, NVIDIA Isaac Sim, Webots, Unity, Unreal Engine, or other advanced robotics simulation platforms is also highly desirable. What You'll Be BuildingYou will help develop the simulation environment for Furtual's robotic platform, including the ability to realistically simulate:
Robot → Sensors → Physics → ROS 2 → Perception → Localization → Navigation → Control → Teleoperation → Real Robot
You will work closely with our robotics, AI, computer vision, electrical, backend, and software engineers to ensure that what we develop in simulation can ultimately translate to the physical robot.
Who We're Looking ForWe're looking for someone who doesn't need to be taught the fundamentals.
You should be able to look at a complex robotics simulation problem, understand the architecture, identify what's wrong, and build the solution.
If you've worked on self-driving cars, advanced autonomous robots, or serious robotics simulation systems, we want to hear from you.
? Team & Working Style
- 12-engineer multidisciplinary team
- 15 hours/week
- Flexible working hours
- Remote
- Equity-only at this stage
- High level of technical ownership
- Direct collaboration with the founding team
- Opportunity to have significant impact on the architecture of the platform
If you're an experienced robotics simulation engineer who wants to help build something ambitious from the ground up, we'd love to have you join us.
