About the Role
Key Responsibilities

Technical Advisory & Client Support
Advise clients on complex multi-state SUT issues, including economic nexus (post-Wayfair), marketplace facilitator rules, drop-shipment scenarios, and product/service taxability.
Provide structured, well-documented advisory memos and recommendations tailored to client industries (e.g., SaaS, e-commerce, manufacturing, retail, construction).
Support clients through audits, notices, and state tax controversies, including drafting responses and representing clients before state tax authorities.

Compliance & Filing Oversight
Oversee end-to-end SUT compliance — registrations, monthly/quarterly/annual filings, reconciliations, and payment processing across multiple US states and localities.
Review returns prepared by the team for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
Ensure compliance with state-specific rules, thresholds, and filing frequencies; monitor legislative changes and communicate impact to clients and internal teams.
Manage exemption certificate collection, validation,



and renewal processes.

Team Leadership & Development
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of SUT analysts and senior associates; conduct performance reviews and training sessions.
Allocate work, monitor deliverables, and ensure SLAs and turnaround times are consistently met.
Build standard operating procedures (SOPs), checklists, and knowledge repositories to drive consistency and scalability.

Client Relationship Management
Act as the primary point of contact for key client stakeholders (CFOs, Controllers, Tax Directors).
Conduct periodic client review calls, present findings, and proactively identify tax planning and savings prospects.
Handle client escalations with professionalism and drive resolution.

Process & Technology
Drive automation and process improvements using SUT compliance tools such as Avalara, Vertex, Sovos, TaxJar, or Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE.
