Job Summary The Tax Policy Vertical at the Isaac Centre for Public Policy (ICPP), Ashoka University, is building India's leading independent centre for research on tax policy, tax administration, public finance and economic policy. The Centre aims to generate rigorous evidence, inform policy reforms, strengthen state capacity and contribute to India's long-term economic growth under Viksit Bharat 2047. We seek a motivated Research Associate with 2-3 years of relevant experience to support research, policy analysis and stakeholder engagement across direct taxes, indirect taxes, tax administration and institutional reforms, both at the central and state government levels.

Responsibilities
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative research on taxation, public finance and economic policy, including analysis of datasets relating to taxation, investment, compliance costs, litigation and economic growth.
- Analyse tax laws, administrative processes and institutional reforms in India and internationally, and undertake literature reviews, comparative policy studies and international benchmarking.
- Support the development of policy papers, issue briefs, working papers, discussion notes and evidence-based policy recommendations.
- Contribute to research on long-term reform frameworks, tax competitiveness, investment climate and ease of doing business.
- Support consultations with government officials, academia, industry, multilateral organisations and civil society by preparing background notes, meeting briefs and consultation summaries.
- Assist in organising policy roundtables, workshops and conferences, and prepare presentations, policy decks and research summaries for senior policymakers.
- Monitor domestic and global developments in taxation and public finance, contribute to blogs, newsletters and other knowledge products, and support the Co-Lead and Research Manager with research coordination, documentation and project activities.
What We Are Looking For Qualifications
- Master's degree in Economics, Public Policy or a related discipline.
- 2-3 years of experience in public policy research organisations/think tanks or economic, strategy or public sector consulting.
- Solid understanding of economic policy and public finance, with knowledge of India's federal tax system and fiscal policy.
- Experience working with government datasets and policy reports; strong quantitative skills with proficiency in Excel. Familiarity with Stata, R or Python is preferred.
- Excellent analytical, research, writing and presentation skills, with the ability to synthesize complex evidence into clear policy recommendations.
- Strong project management and stakeholder coordination abilities.
