Role objective: Ensure consistent plating quality through disciplined laboratory control, process monitoring, inspection, testing, problem-solving, and compliance with customer and quality-system requirements.

Key Responsibilities

1. Control and monitor electroplating processes, including cleaning, activation, plating, passivation and final finishing stages.
2. Perform and review plating-bath analysis using titration and other laboratory methods; maintain bath chemistry within approved control limits.
3. Monitor critical parameters such as chemical concentration, pH, temperature, current density, voltage, time, agitation, filtration and contamination levels.
4. Conduct incoming, in-process and final inspection for appearance, coating thickness, adhesion, corrosion resistance, porosity and other specified requirements.
5. Operate and maintain relevant laboratory and inspection equipment such as pH meters, conductivity meters, analytical balances, coating-thickness gauges, salt-spray chambers and Hull Cell test units.
6. Prepare sampling plans, control plans, inspection standards, laboratory records, certificates of analysis and daily/weekly quality reports.
7. Investigate non-conformities, line rejections, rework, customer complaints and recurring process defects using root-cause analysis and 7 QC tools.
8. Define and track corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), verify effectiveness and prevent recurrence through process and documentation controls.
9. Coordinate with Production, Maintenance, Process, Stores, Purchase and EHS teams to stabilise quality and reduce scrap, rejection and chemical consumption.

Ensure calibration and verification of measuring and test equipment, traceability of standards and good laboratory practices (GLP/5S).
11. Support internal, customer and certification audits; maintain compliance with ISO 9001 and applicable customer, product and process requirements.
12. Train inspectors, laboratory technicians and shop-floor personnel on inspection methods, defect standards, process controls and safe chemical handling.

Qualification and Experience
1. Minimum 6 years of Quality Control experience in a manufacturing setting, with direct and recent exposure to an electroplating plant.
2. B.Sc./M.Sc. in Chemistry, Diploma/B.E./B.Tech in Chemical, Metallurgy, Mechanical or a related discipline. Relevant electroplating certifications are an advantage.
3. Strong practical laboratory experience, including preparation of reagents/standards, wet analysis, titration, sample handling, instrument checks and documentation.
4. Sound understanding of surface preparation, plating chemistry, coating defects and corrective adjustments for common electroplating processes.
5. Experience in handling shift quality, line trials, customer specifications, rejection analysis and audit documentation.
6. Working knowledge of MS Excel and quality reporting; experience with ERP/QMS software is preferred.

Technical and Laboratory

1. Electroplating bath analysis and bath correction
2. Wet chemistry, titration, reagent preparation and laboratory safety

4. Salt-spray/corrosion testing, adhesion testing and visual defect evaluation
5. Understanding of zinc, nickel, chrome, copper, tin or related plating systems, as applicable to the plant
6. Knowledge of pretreatment, passivation, sealers, rinsing quality and contamination control
7. Measurement-system control, calibration and traceability

1. 7 QC tools, Pareto analysis, fishbone diagram, 5 Why and structured root-cause analysis
2. CAPA, non-conformance control, deviation handling and effectiveness verification
3. SPC, process capability and trend monitoring
4. Control plans, SOPs, work instructions, inspection standards and document control
5. ISO 9001 awareness; IATF 16949, PPAP, FMEA, MSA and APQP exposure is preferred for automotive-component operations
6. Customer complaint analysis, audit support and cross-functional coordination
