Title (headline): Power Query/M Expert — Data Engineer (Microsoft Fabric Migration)
Location: Bengaluru or Hyderabad — hybrid (remote day-to-day, with occasional visits to a nearby office)
Joining: Immediate, must be ready to join in 2 week if selected.
Engagement: Nestingale delivery team, client project
⚠️ Please note before applying: Our selection process includes a mandatory in-person interview round in Bangalore or Hyderabad. You must be based in — or able to travel to — one of these two cities. Applications from outside this area can't be considered for this role.
About the Engagement A specialized, project-based engagement delivering a high-impact data transformation for one of our key clients. As part of the Nestingale delivery team, you'll architect and execute a critical migration to Microsoft Fabric, giving the client a contemporary, scalable data ecosystem. Ideal for a developer who excels at precision delivery and high-visibility architectural work.
About the Role
We're looking for a Power Query / M expert to lead the migration of a complex data ecosystem into Microsoft Fabric. This isn't about building dashboards — it's about transforming how data is handled, from raw ingestion in Lakehouses to sophisticated transformation via Dataflows Gen2. You'll be the primary owner of the ETL logic, keeping data clean, performant, and accurate as the environment scales.
This is an M-first role. If you've lived in the Power Query UI but haven't written and optimized M by hand, this won't be the right fit — and that's okay.
What You'll Do
- Architect the migration: lead the transition of legacy workloads into Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouses, Pipelines) for a modern data stack.
- Master the M language: write and optimize complex, high-performance Power Query (M) for cleansing, mapping, and standardization.
- Build robust pipelines: design and manage end-to-end ETL, integrating SQL Server, SharePoint, and Excel into a unified source of truth.
- Optimize for scale: audit existing Power Query transformations and refactor them for maximum performance in Fabric.
- Ensure data integrity: implement rigorous validation frameworks for 100% accuracy during and after migration.
Who You Are
- The M expert — you write and optimize M code from scratch, not just click through the Power Query UI.
- Fabric-ready and hands-on — real delivery experience across Dataflows Gen2, Pipelines, and Lakehouse.
- ETL mindset — you think in data flows, schemas, and performance, not just visuals.
- Analytical problem solver — you enjoy the detective work of debugging discrepancies and optimizing slow queries.
Must Have Expert-level Power Query / M (writing and optimizing complex M from scratch) and hands-on Microsoft Fabric delivery (Dataflows Gen2, Pipelines, Lakehouse) — real delivery, not familiarity. Plus the ability to attend an in-person interview in Bangalore or Hyderabad.
Technical Stack
- Core: Power Query / M, Microsoft Fabric
- Data sources: SQL Server, SharePoint, Excel
- Tooling: Power BI, Dataflows Gen2, Lakehouses, Pipelines
