Job Summary

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is a highly skilled professional responsible for leading the design, development, and optimization of complex mechanical systems, products, and solutions. With a degree or master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience, this role demands advanced technical knowledge, creativity, and a proactive approach to solving engineering challenges. The Engineer will take ownership of critical design projects, mentor junior engineers, and work cross-functionally with teams to ensure high-quality designs are delivered on time and meet customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Advanced Mechanical Design and Innovation:

- Lead the design and development of cutting-edge mechanical systems, products, and solutions, utilizing the latest engineering practices and technologies.
- Conduct in-depth design analysis, including FEA (Finite Element Analysis), CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), and other advanced simulations, to optimize performance and ensure structural integrity.
- Innovate and develop new mechanical concepts and systems, pushing the boundaries of product design while considering cost, performance, and manufacturability.

2. Product Development and System Integration:

- Drive the full product lifecycle from concept development through to prototype, testing, production, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee system integration, ensuring seamless integration of mechanical systems with electrical, control, and software components, particularly in automated systems and robotics.
- Manage and oversee complex, multidisciplinary design projects that require coordination across engineering disciplines (electrical, software, and manufacturing).

3. Design Leadership and Mentoring:

- Lead a team of junior and mid-level design engineers, providing technical guidance, support, and mentorship in the development of mechanical designs.
- Ensure design teams follow best practices for design processes, methodologies, and standards, delivering high-quality solutions consistently.
- Review and approve design proposals, providing constructive feedback to improve designs and ensure alignment with project goals.

4. Design Validation, Testing, and Optimization:

- Lead advanced testing and validation processes to confirm that mechanical systems meet functional, safety, and performance requirements.
- Develop test plans, coordinate prototype fabrication, and manage testing to validate mechanical systems, integrating lessons learned into design improvements.
- Analyze performance data and feedback from testing to identify areas for optimization, and work with manufacturing and production teams to implement improvements.

5. Project Management and Cross-Functional Collaboration:

- Take ownership of design projects, from inception through to delivery, including defining requirements, timelines, resources,



and budgets. Collaborate with project managers, production teams, and cross-functional engineering groups to ensure that designs meet project specifications, timelines, and budget constraints.
- Provide technical expertise and support during project reviews, troubleshooting issues, and implementing solutions as required.

6. Advanced CAD Modelling and Documentation:

- Develop and review complex 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and detailed specifications for mechanical systems and components, ensuring design intent is clearly communicated.
- Create comprehensive documentation, including design calculations, BOMs (Bills of Materials), assembly instructions, and manufacturing drawings.
- Ensure all designs comply with internal and external design standards, regulatory requirements, and quality assurance protocols.

7. Continuous Improvement and Product Optimization:

- Drive continuous improvement in the design process by identifying and implementing new design tools, techniques, and methodologies.
- Lead the refinement of existing products through design modifications and optimizations based on customer feedback, performance analysis, and manufacturing feedback.
- Implement value engineering techniques to improve product performance, reduce costs, and enhance manufacturability.

8. Customer and Stakeholder Engagement:

- Engage directly with customers, stakeholders, and suppliers to understand their requirements, provide technical expertise, and ensure design solutions align with customer needs.
- Present and explain design proposals to customers or internal stakeholders, addressing any concerns and ensuring alignment on project goals and technical specifications.
- Lead product demonstrations and trials, providing in-depth technical knowledge and support during product evaluations.

9. Compliance, Safety, and Regulatory Adherence:

- Ensure all mechanical designs adhere to industry standards, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols, including environmental impact assessments and safety certifications.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential safety issues in mechanical designs, ensuring products meet safety standards and regulations.

10. R&D; and Technological Leadership:

- Drive research and development efforts to explore new technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes to enhance mechanical design capabilities.
- Keep abreast of the latest trends, tools, and innovations in mechanical engineering,



incorporating new advancements into design practices.

Qualifications:

- Education: Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- Experience: Hands-on experience in mechanical design, with a proven track record of delivering complex mechanical systems or products.
- Certifications (optional): Professional Engineer (PE) license or certifications in mechanical design (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk, etc.) are a plus.

Key Skills and Competencies:

1. Advanced Mechanical Design and CAD Expertise:

- Mastery of CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Siemens NX, Inventor, or similar).
- Experience in advanced design techniques, such as sheet metal design, casting, injection molding, and assembly design.
- Expertise in design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).

2. Engineering Analysis and Simulation:

- Proficiency in advanced engineering analysis tools (e.g., FEA, CFD) for stress analysis, thermal analysis, and fluid dynamics.
- Ability to perform calculations and simulations to validate designs and optimize performance.

3. Leadership and Mentoring:

- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to guide, mentor, and motivate junior engineers to meet project goals.
- Proven experience managing teams, delegating tasks, and ensuring design excellence.

4. Problem-Solving and Innovation:

- Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively to overcome design challenges.
- Proven ability to innovate and push the boundaries of design in creating solutions that enhance product performance and cost-efficiency.

5. Cross-Functional Collaboration and Communication:

- Excellent communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with teams such as electrical engineers, software engineers, and manufacturing teams.

6. Project Management and Execution:

- Strong project management skills, including defining timelines, budgets, and resource allocation for complex projects.
- Experience with managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.

7. Customer-Focused Design:

- Ability to translate customer requirements into innovative and efficient mechanical designs that meet functional, aesthetic, and performance criteria.
- Experience in customer-facing roles, presenting technical solutions, and addressing customer concerns.

8. Compliance and Safety Standards:

- Deep understanding of industry standards and regulatory requirements, including safety protocols for product design and manufacturing.

9. Continuous Learning and Development:

- A solid desire for continuous learning and development to stay up-to-date with the latest trends, tools, and technologies in mechanical engineering.
