Manufacturing Design Engineer (FreeCAD) – AI Training Project

Location: Remote

Engagement: Contractor

Compensation: USD $40–$100/hour

Ufinity ventures is sharing an opportunity for experienced Manufacturing Design Engineers to contribute their mechanical design and CAD expertise to an innovative AI training project focused on advanced design for manufacturing.

This opportunity is ideal for professionals with hands-on expertise in FreeCAD or similar parametric CAD platforms, mechanical design, 3D CAD modeling, assembly design, engineering drawings, GD&T;, tolerance analysis, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM).

In this role, selected professionals will apply their real-world engineering expertise to design, document, review, and validate production-ready mechanical components and assemblies while contributing high-quality technical knowledge that helps train next-generation AI systems.

No prior AI experience is required. Your mechanical engineering, CAD, and manufacturing expertise are what matter most.

Scope of Work

- Create and modify detailed parametric 3D CAD models of mechanical components and assemblies using FreeCAD or comparable parametric CAD software.
- Develop comprehensive engineering drawings suitable for manufacturing handoff.
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T;) and tolerance stack-up principles to mechanical designs.
- Design mechanical components for a variety of manufacturing processes, including:
- CNC machining
- Sheet metal fabrication
- Plastics
- Injection molding
- Develop and refine mechanical assemblies using sound engineering and component-integration principles.

- Perform CAD validation and quality assurance reviews to verify dimensional accuracy, model integrity, and production readiness.
- Evaluate designs against real-world manufacturability requirements and identify potential design issues.
- Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to improve manufacturability, quality, and practicality.
- Prepare clear and concise technical documentation and assembly instructions.
- Incorporate feedback from technical reviewers to revise and improve CAD models, engineering drawings, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain high standards of engineering accuracy, consistency, and technical quality throughout project assignments.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience designing mechanical components for manufacturing environments.
- Strong proficiency in FreeCAD or a comparable parametric CAD platform .
- Hands-on experience with parametric 3D modeling, mechanical components, and assemblies.
- Experience creating production-ready CAD models and engineering drawings .
- Strong understanding of GD&T;, tolerance analysis, and tolerance stack-ups .
- Practical knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
- Understanding of real-world mechanical manufacturing and production requirements.

- Ability to perform CAD validation and assess designs for manufacturability.
- Strong technical documentation skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, project-based environment.

Manufacturing Experience Hands-on design exposure to one or more of the following manufacturing processes is particularly valuable:
- CNC machining
- Sheet metal fabrication
- Plastic component manufacturing
- Injection molding
- Mechanical assembly and component integration

Candidates with experience across multiple manufacturing processes are particularly encouraged to apply.
