Lead PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA)

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Lead PostgreSQL DBA with solid expertise in PostgreSQL database administration, performance optimization, high availability, backup/recovery, and database security. The candidate will be responsible for managing PostgreSQL environments and leading a team, while ensuring database availability, reliability, performance, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and mentor a team of DBA's, providing technical guidance and ensuring effective task allocation.
- Manage and administer PostgreSQL databases across development, testing, staging, and production environments.
- Perform database installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, migration, and capacity planning.
- Monitor database health, availability, performance, and resource utilization.
- Perform SQL query tuning, indexing, execution-plan analysis, and database performance optimization.
- Design, implement, and maintain high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions.
- Manage backup, restore, replication, and recovery processes and ensure defined RPO/RTO requirements are met.
- Troubleshoot complex database issues, performance bottlenecks, connectivity problems, and production incidents.
- Implement database security, access controls, roles, privileges, encryption, and auditing in line with organizational standards.
- Plan and execute PostgreSQL version upgrades, database migrations, and infrastructure changes with minimal business disruption.
- Establish and maintain DBA standards, operational procedures, monitoring, and documentation.
- Collaborate with application development, DevOps, infrastructure, and architecture teams on database-related requirements.




- Participate in production support, incident management, root-cause analysis, and preventive action planning.
- Ensure database environments follow organizational compliance, security, and availability standards.

Required Technical Skills
- Expert-level expertise in PostgreSQL DBA administration.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture, configuration, internals, and administration.
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL backup, recovery, replication, and high availability.
- Strong expertise in performance tuning, SQL optimization, indexing, and query-plan analysis.
- Experience with database monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Strong knowledge of database security, access management, and auditing.
- Experience with PostgreSQL upgrades, patching, migration, and capacity management.
- Working knowledge of Linux/Unix environments and shell scripting.
- Exposure to cloud-based PostgreSQL environments and managed database services is an advantage.

Educational Qualification
- Bachelors degree in Engineering or full-time Postgraduate degree in Computer Science/Information Technology.

Experience
- Strong professional experience as a PostgreSQL DBA, with demonstrated expertise in managing enterprise PostgreSQL environments.
- Prior experience in a technical lead or team leadership role is required.
