1. Key ResponsibilitiesA. In-Process Inspection
- Conduct in-process inspection at Cold Forging, Thread Rolling and Plating / Surface Treatment stages.
- Inspect components as per approved drawings, control plans, inspection standards and work instructions.
- Verify critical dimensions such as:
- Length
- Head diameter
- Head height
- Shank diameter
- Thread dimensions
- Pitch
- Thread length
- Chamfer and radius
- Across flats / across corners, wherever applicable.
- Monitor process parameters and ensure production is carried out within specified limits.
- Identify and segregate NG / rejected components to prevent mixing with accepted material.
- Ensure proper identification and traceability of inspected batches.
B. Thread Inspection
- Inspect threads using appropriate GO / NO-GO gauges, thread ring gauges, thread plug gauges and measuring instruments.
- Check thread profile, pitch, thread length and other customer-specific requirements.
- Monitor thread rolling process and immediately report abnormal conditions.
- Ensure proper calibration status of gauges and measuring instruments.
C. Plating / Surface Treatment Inspection
- Carry out in-process and final inspection of plated fasteners.
- Check plating appearance, colour, uniformity,
coating condition and surface defects.
- Verify coating thickness using appropriate measuring equipment such as coating thickness gauge / XRF, wherever applicable.
- Check for defects such as:
- Rust
- Discolouration
- Uneven coating
- Peeling
- Blistering
- Staining
- Excessive coating
- Bare areas
- Handling marks.
- Verify plating requirements against customer specifications and applicable standards.
- Coordinate with the plating / surface treatment team for correction of process-related defects.
D. Measuring Instruments
- Handle and maintain measuring instruments such as:
- Vernier caliper
- Micrometer
- Height gauge
- Thread gauges
- Plug gauges
- Ring gauges
- Coating thickness gauge
- Weighing equipment.
- Ensure measuring instruments are within calibration validity.
- Report damaged or overdue instruments to the Quality Department.
E. Documentation & Quality Records
- Maintain in-process inspection reports and inspection records.
- Record inspection results accurately and promptly.
- Maintain rejection / rejection analysis records.
- Prepare and communicate quality alerts for recurring defects.
- Ensure proper traceability of inspection records to batch / lot numbers.
- Support preparation and updating of inspection standards and check sheets.
F. Non-Conformance & Corrective Action
- Identify non-conforming products and immediately inform the concerned Production / Quality Engineer.
- Stop or hold the process when critical quality issues are identified.
- Support Root Cause Analysis (RCA), 5 Why and corrective actions.
- Monitor effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Ensure rejected material is properly identified and segregated.
G. Quality System & Continuous Improvement
- Follow IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 quality system requirements, wherever applicable.
- Follow Control Plan, PFMEA, Work Instructions and inspection procedures.
- Participate in 5S, Kaizen and continuous improvement activities.
- Support customer audits and internal quality audits.
- Ensure compliance with safety and quality procedures.
