Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Database Engineer role based in Gujarat, India.

The Database

Engineer will design, implement, and maintain databases that support the foundation’s archival, research, and programmatic activities. Typical responsibilities include modeling data structures for visual arts archives, configuring and optimizing database systems, and ensuring data quality, integrity, and security. The role involves developing and maintaining data ingestion pipelines, managing backups and recovery, and creating tools or queries to enable easy access to archival and program data for internal teams.

Engineer will collaborate with archivists, program managers, and technical partners to translate organizational needs into robust,



scalable database solutions and provide ongoing support and troubleshooting.

Qualifications

- Strong skills in relational database design and management (e.g., SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and experience with data modeling for complex archival or content systems.
- Hands-on experience with database performance optimization, indexing, query tuning, and monitoring tools to ensure reliable and efficient systems.
- Knowledge of data integration and ETL processes, including importing, cleaning, and structuring data from diverse sources and formats.
- Understanding of data security, backup, and recovery practices, with the ability to implement access controls and compliance with organizational policies.
- Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (e.g., Python, Java, or similar) for building utilities, automation scripts, or data tools.
- Ability to document database schemas, standards, and procedures clearly, and to communicate technical concepts to non-technical team members.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Interest in arts, culture, and archival work, with openness to collaborate closely with curatorial and research teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work on-site in a collaborative workplace, manage multiple priorities, and deliver solutions within agreed timelines.
