Hirely i s recruiting on behalf of a hiring partner for a remote Data Engineer opportunity supporting a Frontier Code Agents project with a leading AI research lab.

Contributors will help evaluate and improve frontier AI coding models through realistic data engineering workflows and structured technical assessments. The role is particularly suited to experienced data engineers who regularly work with AI coding agents.

What You’ll Do:

- Use frontier AI coding agents to complete and evaluate complex data engineering tasks.
- Review AI-generated implementations involving ETL pipelines, data warehouses, analytics platforms, and distributed data systems.
- Identify bugs, edge cases, scalability concerns, and potential failure modes.
- Compare outputs from multiple frontier AI models and assess their strengths and weaknesses.
- Apply professional engineering judgment to realistic data engineering scenarios.
- Evaluate the quality, reliability, and production-readiness of model-generated code and infrastructure.

Who We’re Looking For:

- 2+ years of professional data engineering experience.
- Experience building ETL pipelines, data warehouses, analytics platforms, or distributed data systems.
- Regular experience using AI coding agents such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, or similar tools.




- Solid understanding of data engineering workflows and infrastructure.
- Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code and identify technical shortcomings.
- Experience working with large-scale data platforms is preferred.
- Strong analytical reasoning and technical communication skills.

Compensation & Time Commitment:

- $80/hour equivalent
- $400 per accepted task
- Typical tasks take approximately 2-3 hours after ramp-up
- Sprint-based projects running in 12-24 hour stretches, depending on client requirements.
- Compensation is tied to accepted work.
- Fully remote, independent contractor opportunity.
