Job Title: Career Counsellor School

Department: Student Support / Counselling

Reports To: School Leadership / Principal

Location: School Campus

Experience: 2–5 years in career counselling, student counselling, education, or a related field

Job Purpose The Career Counsellor will guide students in making informed decisions about their academic pathways, higher education, careers, and future opportunities. The role involves understanding each student’s interests, strengths, aptitude, and aspirations and providing personalised guidance in collaboration with students, parents, teachers, and school leadership.

Key Responsibilities

1. Student Career Counselling

- Conduct one-to-one and group career counselling sessions for students.
- Understand students’ interests, strengths, aptitude, personality, and career aspirations.
- Help students identify suitable academic streams, subjects, courses, and career pathways.
- Provide guidance on career options beyond traditional fields.
- Support students in developing realistic short-term and long-term academic and career goals.

2. Career & Aptitude Assessments

- Administer and interpret appropriate career/aptitude/personality assessments.
- Prepare individual student counselling reports and provide actionable recommendations.
- Explain assessment outcomes clearly to students and parents.

3. Higher Education Guidance

- Guide students regarding colleges, universities, courses, entrance examinations, and admission processes.
- Keep updated on changes in higher education pathways in India and overseas.




- Support students with application timelines, eligibility requirements, scholarships, and relevant opportunities.
- Conduct sessions on university admissions and entrance examinations.

4. Parent Engagement

- Conduct individual and group sessions for parents.
- Address parents’ queries regarding academic streams, career options, higher education, and entrance examinations.
- Help parents understand and support their child’s interests and career aspirations.

5. Career Awareness Programmes

- Organise career fairs, university interactions, expert talks, workshops, and counselling sessions.
- Invite professionals, alumni, universities, and industry experts for student engagement.
- Develop career-related resources, presentations, newsletters, and information materials.

6. Student Records & Documentation

- Maintain confidential records of counselling sessions, assessments, student progress, and career plans.
- Track students’ career preferences and post-school pathways.
- Prepare periodic reports for school leadership.

7. Collaboration with School Teams

- Work closely with teachers, coordinators, school counsellors, and leadership.




- Identify students who may require additional academic or career support.
- Participate in student development initiatives and school programmes.

Qualification
- Master’s degree in Psychology, Counselling, Career Counselling, Education, or a related field.
- Certification in Career Counselling from a recognised institution is preferred.
- Prior experience working with school students is highly desirable.

Preferred Experience Experience in counselling students from Grades 8–12, particularly in areas such as:

- Stream/subject selection
- Career exploration
- College and university applications
- Entrance examinations
- Study-abroad guidance
- Scholarship guidance

- Number and quality of student counselling sessions
- Student and parent satisfaction
- Career awareness programmes conducted
- Student participation in career-related activities
- Quality and accuracy of counselling reports
- Successful coordination of university/industry interactions
- Student progression and post-school pathway tracking
