Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled and responsible Blood Bank Technician to support day-to-day blood bank operations, including blood grouping, compatibility testing, blood screening, storage, inventory management, and documentation. The ideal candidate should have strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of blood bank safety, quality standards, and standard operating procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform ABO and Rh blood grouping accurately as per established procedures.
- Conduct cross-matching and compatibility testing before blood/component issue.
- Perform required blood testing and screening according to blood bank protocols.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and preservation of blood and blood components.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate storage temperatures for blood and blood components.
- Regularly record and review temperature monitoring logs.
- Maintain accurate blood inventory and ensure proper stock management.
- Handle blood and blood component issue procedures as per authorized requirements.
- Maintain proper records of blood collection, testing, storage, issue, and disposal.
- Complete all required registers, forms, reports, and documentation accurately.
- Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at all times.
- Adhere to laboratory safety, infection-control, and quality-assurance procedures.
- Identify and report discrepancies, unsuitable samples, storage issues, or other concerns to the appropriate senior staff.
- Maintain proper identification and traceability of blood samples and blood components.
- Ensure proper handling of blood samples, reagents, equipment, and other laboratory materials.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized blood bank environment.
- Support audits, quality checks, and other blood bank activities as required.
Qualification
- Diploma/Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT/BMLT) or a relevant laboratory/medical technology qualification.
- Additional training or certification in Blood Bank Technology/Transfusion Medicine will be an advantage.
Experience
- Experience in a hospital blood bank, blood centre, transfusion medicine department, or diagnostic laboratory is preferred.
- Candidates with relevant hands-on training/internship experience in blood banking may also be considered, depending on the role requirements.
Required Technical Skills
- Practical knowledge of ABO & Rh blood grouping.
- Knowledge of cross-matching and compatibility testing.
- Understanding of blood collection, testing, storage, and issue procedures.
- Knowledge of blood and blood component storage requirements and temperature monitoring.
- Ability to maintain and monitor blood inventory.
- Positive understanding of laboratory documentation and record keeping.
- Familiarity with blood bank equipment, reagents, and basic laboratory procedures.
- Working knowledge of SOPs, safety protocols, quality procedures, and infection-control practices.
- Basic computer and data-entry skills for maintaining records and documentation.

Working Hours
- Primarily 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM or 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM.
- Candidates should be willing to work in rotational shifts, if required based on blood bank operations.
Preferred Candidate Profile Candidates with hands-on experience in ABO/Rh blood grouping, cross-matching, blood screening, blood component storage, temperature monitoring, inventory management, and blood bank documentation will be preferred.
Experience working in a hospital blood bank or transfusion medicine department will be an added advantage.
Pay: ₹9,362.89 - ₹29,633.10 per month
