1. Role Purpose The AVP – EV Truck & Bus Maintenance will lead the end-to-end maintenance strategy and operations for the company's electric truck and bus fleet across multiple locations.
The role will be responsible for ensuring high fleet availability, reliability, safety, optimum maintenance cost, effective workshop operations and lifecycle management of EV assets.
The role requires strong exposure to commercial electric vehicles, specifically both electric trucks and electric buses, along with a strong understanding of fleet operations and workshop management.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. EV Fleet Maintenance Strategy
- Develop and implement the overall maintenance strategy for electric buses and trucks.
- Establish standard maintenance practices, SOPs, checklists and service schedules across all locations.
- Ensure maximum vehicle availability and minimum unplanned downtime.
- Develop preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance programs based on vehicle usage, duty cycle, route conditions and OEM recommendations.
- Establish vehicle/component lifecycle management strategies.
- Identify recurring failures and implement long-term corrective actions.
- Standardise maintenance processes across depots and workshops.
B. EV Technical Management Provide technical leadership for the complete EV architecture, including:
- Battery Pack and Battery Management System (BMS)
- Electric Motors and Motor Controllers
- Vehicle Control Unit (VCU)
- Inverter and Power Electronics
- DC-DC Converter
- On-board Charger
- Charging Systems and Charging Interfaces
- Thermal Management and Cooling Systems
- High-Voltage systems
- Telematics and connected vehicle diagnostics
- Electrical and electronic systems
- Braking and regenerative braking systems
- Steering, suspension, axle and transmission systems
- HVAC and auxiliary systems
- Tyres, wheels and other commercial vehicle systems
- Lead technical diagnosis of major and recurring failures.
- Establish root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive action mechanisms.
- Analyse diagnostic codes, vehicle data and maintenance trends.
- Develop technical solutions to improve vehicle reliability and component life.
C. Truck & Bus Maintenance Operations
- Lead maintenance operations for both electric trucks and electric buses.
- Develop maintenance strategies based on different vehicle applications, payload, route conditions, operating hours and utilisation.
- Ensure preventive maintenance is completed within defined timelines.
- Monitor breakdown response and restoration time.
- Establish escalation mechanisms for critical vehicle failures.
- Drive reduction in repeat breakdowns and chronic vehicle issues.
- Ensure maintenance readiness for new projects and fleet expansion.
D. Workshop & Depot Management
- Lead the development and standardisation of EV workshops across locations.
- Define workshop infrastructure, equipment, tools and diagnostic requirements.
- Ensure availability of appropriate EV diagnostic equipment and specialised tools.
- Establish workshop layout, material flow and technical processes.
- Improve workshop productivity and technician utilisation.
- Ensure proper housekeeping, 5S and safety standards.
- Conduct periodic technical and process audits of workshops.
- Evaluate workshop capacity against current and projected fleet size.
E. High-Voltage EV Safety
- Establish and enforce comprehensive EV high-voltage safety protocols.
- Ensure SOPs for:
- HV isolation and de-energisation
- Battery handling
- Electrical diagnostics
- Battery removal and installation
- Accident/damaged vehicle handling
- Emergency response
- Charging safety
- Ensure technicians are appropriately trained and certified for HV work.
- Conduct periodic safety audits and competency assessments.
- Work closely with EHS/Safety teams to maintain a zero-compromise approach to EV safety.
F. Reliability & Continuous Improvement
- Establish a structured reliability improvement program.
- Monitor component failure trends and identify chronic failure modes.
- Drive Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode Analysis and Corrective Action Plans.
- Work with OEMs and engineering teams to resolve recurring technical issues.
- Identify opportunities to improve component life and reduce maintenance frequency.
- Implement predictive maintenance using vehicle and telematics data.
- Drive continuous improvement in MTBF and MTTR.
G. Maintenance Cost Management
- Own maintenance cost performance across the EV fleet.
- Prepare and manage annual maintenance budgets.
- Monitor:
- Maintenance cost per km
- Maintenance cost per vehicle
- Spare-parts cost
- Labour cost
- Component replacement cost
- Warranty recovery
- External repair/vendor cost
- Identify cost optimisation opportunities without compromising safety or fleet reliability.
- Develop lifecycle cost models for critical EV components.
I. OEM & Vendor Management
- Act as the senior technical interface with EV OEMs and technology partners.
- Manage technical escalations with OEMs for critical failures.
- Monitor OEM technical support and service performance.
- Ensure timely closure of warranty claims.
- Negotiate technical support, service levels and maintenance contracts.
- Participate in technical evaluation of new EV models and suppliers.
- Ensure effective knowledge transfer from OEMs to internal maintenance teams.
J. New Fleet & Project Readiness
- Lead technical readiness for onboarding new EV truck and bus models.
- Define maintenance requirements before vehicle deployment.
- Review vehicle technical specifications from a maintenance perspective.
- Ensure availability of:
- Diagnostic tools
- Critical spares
- Workshop equipment
- Technical manuals
- SOPs
- Trained manpower
- Participate in vehicle trials, pilot operations and technical acceptance.
- Develop maintenance plans for new projects and fleet expansion.
K. Maintenance Data & MIS Develop and monitor a comprehensive maintenance dashboard covering:
- Fleet Availability

- Lead a large, multi-location maintenance organisation.
- Build organisational structure and manpower plans aligned with fleet growth.
- Develop maintenance managers, engineers, supervisors and technicians.
- Establish technical competency matrices for maintenance teams.
- Conduct regular technical training and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Develop succession plans for critical technical positions.
- Create a performance-driven and safety-focused maintenance culture.

5. Candidate Profile
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Automobile / Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent.
- MBA/PG qualification in Operations, Supply Chain or Management will be an added advantage.
Experience
- 15–20+ years of relevant experience in commercial vehicle maintenance.
- Significant experience in electric vehicle maintenance and fleet operations.
- Strong exposure to both electric buses and electric trucks is mandatory/preferred.
- Experience managing large-scale, multi-location fleet maintenance operations.
- Experience in EV OEM, commercial vehicle OEM, fleet operator, logistics or electric mobility organisation will be preferred.
