Position: Pharma Aide
Reports to: Manager Pharmacy/ Supervisor - Pharmacy

Job Overview:
The Pharma Aide is responsible for supporting the hospital pharmacy team in the secure, effective, and timely dispensing of medications to patients while adhering to NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers) standards and hospital protocols. The role requires a focus on maintaining a high level of patient safety, proper documentation, inventory management, and assisting pharmacists in providing appropriate pharmaceutical care to patients.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Medication Management:
- Assist pharmacists in dispensing prescription medications accurately and efficiently.
- Ensure correct dosage, strength, and medication is provided to patients as per prescriptions.
- Ensure medications are dispensed according to NABH safety standards, minimizing errors in the process.
- Monitor and report medication-related discrepancies or concerns.
2. Patient Safety & Education::
- Ensure that patient medication profiles are updated regularly.
- Provide basic medication information to patients and their families as per the guidance of the supervising pharmacist.
- Help in educating patients about the correct use of prescribed drugs, potential side effects, and interactions.
- Monitor for adverse drug reactions and report them to the relevant medical personnel.
3. Hospital Protocol Adherence:
- Follow hospitals infection control and safety protocols when handling medications and pharmaceutical equipment.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and contribute to NABH audits.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information as per hospital policies and relevant privacy laws.
4. Record Keeping & Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of drug prescriptions, medication distribution, and patient consultations.
- Ensure that records comply with hospital, legal, and NABH standards for documentation.
- Prepare reports for audits and regulatory compliance checks.
5. Inventory Management:
- Assist in maintaining an accurate inventory of all pharmaceutical products.
- Ensure that expired, damaged, or unused medications are safely disposed of as per hospital protocol.
- Support the pharmacist in ordering new stock and ensuring the pharmacy has adequate supplies.
- Monitor the usage of controlled substances and ensure compliance with legal and hospital regulations.
6. Quality Assurance:
- Regularly audit pharmacy practices and medication records to ensure compliance with hospital policies, Indian healthcare regulations, and NABH standards.
- Identify areas for improvement and propose corrective actions to ensure high standards of pharmaceutical care.
- Stay up-to-date with regulatory updates, drug safety recalls, and evolving practices in pharmacology.
7. Collaboration:
- Work closely with the nursing and medical teams to ensure seamless medication management and patient care.
- Assist in the preparation and management of pharmaceutical orders for surgical procedures, emergency medications, and inpatient care.
- Respond to queries related to medication and therapy, providing clear and accurate information under the supervision of a pharmacist.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Any Diploma, Bachelors or Masters Degree
- Experience: Minimum of 1+ years of experience in a hospital pharmacy setting
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of pharmacology, drug interactions, and therapeutic drug management.
- Ability to interpret and apply NABH standards and hospital protocols.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and communication skills.
- Leadership capabilities with experience in managing a pharmacy team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in medication safety and drug efficacy.
