ABOUT KAROSTARTUP

KaroStartup began in 2020 as a college Instagram page. Today it's a startup media platform with a 1M+ community and 100M+ cumulative views, built on telling real Indian business stories with real numbers.

We publish across LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and podcasts, and we also produce content for founders and brands we work with.

BEFORE YOU APPLY

Two things this role requires that most editing roles don't: you must be based in Bengaluru and able to travel across the city, and you must own your own camera and shooting equipment. If either isn't true for you, this isn't the right role.

WHY THIS ROLE EXISTS A lot of our best content is shot outside the office — at a founder's office, at their factory, at their first store. Someone has to actually be in the room with the camera.

That's this role. You come with us to the founder's office, shoot the interview or the podcast or the short video, and then take the footage back and produce the finished piece yourself. One person, end to end — shoot to publish.

WHAT YOU'LL DO — ON THE SHOOT

Travel with the team to founder offices, stores, factories and events across Bengaluru – Shoot founder interviews, podcast episodes, short videos and on-ground content – Set up the frame, lighting and audio yourself — often in a small cabin or a noisy office, not a studio – Capture B-roll while you're there: the office, the product, the team, the details that make the story feel real. The edit is only as good as what you brought back. – Get it right the first time. A founder gives us an hour, and there is no second shoot.

WHAT YOU'LL DO — BACK AT THE DESK

Edit everything you shoot — full podcast episodes, reels, shorts, explainers and founder features – Cut long conversations down to the moments worth publishing, and turn each one into short-form – Own the first three seconds. Hooks, text-on-screen, pattern breaks. Retention is the metric that matters here.



– Subtitles, sound design, transitions, basic motion graphics — the finishing layer that separates a decent edit from a good one – Use AI video tools to speed up the boring parts — transcription, auto-cuts, silence removal, voice cleanup, upscaling – Keep our fonts, colours, caption style and pacing consistent across every video without anyone having to check – Manage and back up footage properly.

Clean file structure, findable six months later. – Look at the analytics afterwards — where people dropped off, which hook held — and change the next edit accordingly

EQUIPMENT

This is a run-and-gun setup, not a film set. We are not looking for a Bollywood-scale production — we're looking for someone who can walk into an office with a bag and come out with usable footage.

You should own and be comfortable operating:

MUST HAVE

Based in Bengaluru and able to travel across the city for shoots – Your own camera and shooting kit, as above – Practical shooting ability — framing, lighting and audio in real, imperfect locations – Adobe Premiere Pro, or an equivalent suite, with a strong working command – CapCut, or similar, for quick short-form turnaround – Ability to handle both long-form and short-form edits — these are different crafts and we need both – Good sense of pacing, rhythm and music selection, and clean audio work – Comfortable with AI-assisted editing tools, and curious about new ones – Ownership — you close the loop and hit deadlines without being chased

GOOD TO HAVE

– Multicam podcast experience — sync, angles,



cutting between speakers – After Effects for motion graphics and animated text – Photoshop or Canva for thumbnails and covers – Basic colour grading – Understanding of what performs on Instagram and YouTube specifically — they are not the same platform – Comfortable talking to founders on set and making them relax on camera

YOU'LL PROBABLY BE GOOD AT THIS IF

You watch a reel and instantly notice the framing, the cut, the caption timing, the sound design – You can walk into an unfamiliar room and figure out where to put the camera in two minutes – You can take a rough brief and come back with something better than what was described – You want to build a body of work, not just clear a task list THE HONEST PART

You are the crew. There is no separate camera person, sound person and editor — on most shoots it's you and your bag, and then it's you at the timeline. That's the point of the role, and it is also the hard part of it.

Shoot days move around. Founders reschedule. Bengaluru traffic is real, and some weeks will have a podcast episode, a founder shoot and several reels in the same pipeline. Speed matters, and so does not letting quality slip when the queue is full.

You'll get feedback constantly, sometimes on individual frames and cuts. If you take that as collaboration rather than criticism, you'll grow fast here.

WHAT YOU GET OUT OF IT

You'll be in the room with founders — not researching them from a laptop, but sitting across from them while they talk – Real ownership of video going out to a 1M+ audience, with your work published, not shelved – A portfolio of podcast episodes, founder features and reels that actually performed — shot and edited by you – Hands-on training in hooks, retention, storytelling and platform strategy, not just software – Certificate and letter of recommendation on completion – Strong performers are considered for a full-time role as the video team is built out

We are not looking for someone who only shoots, or someone who only edits. We are looking for one person who can walk into a founder's office with a camera and walk out with a story we can publish.
