Windows Software Engineer - L2 at 7-Eleven comes with a lot of responsibility – and lots of fun. You’re looking for a role where the candidate typically handles mid-level technical responsibilities related to Windows environments. The role often involves troubleshooting, system administration, and support for Windows-based infrastructure. Here are the key responsibilities:
Manage and support Windows Server environments, including Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, 2019, and 2022.
- Troubleshoot and resolve L2 Windows infrastructure incidents, performance issues, connectivity problems, service failures, and system-related issues.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement monthly Windows security and quality updates using enterprise patching tools such as Tanium and WSUS.
- Analyze security vulnerabilities and CVEs, identify affected servers, coordinate remediation activities, and ensure compliance with security requirements.
- Perform and coordinate Windows Server in-place upgrades and migration activities, including pre-checks, backups, upgrade execution, and post-upgrade validation.
- Support Active Directory services, including user and computer objects, security groups, Group Policy, domain controllers, and related authentication issues.
- Support Windows workloads hosted on VMware vSphere, including VM provisioning, troubleshooting, snapshots, VMware Tools, and coordination with virtualization teams.
- Support Windows servers hosted in Azure and integrated with Azure Arc, including connectivity, agent health, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Monitor server health, CPU, memory, disk utilization, Windows services, event logs, and application/system performance.
- Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate repetitive administrative tasks, health checks, reporting, patch validation, inventory collection, and remediation activities.
- Manage incidents, service requests, changes, and tasks in ServiceNow while ensuring accurate documentation, assignment, prioritization, and SLA compliance.
- Work closely with vulnerability Management teams to remediate vulnerabilities, implement security configurations, and maintain Windows infrastructure compliance.
- Analyze Windows Event Logs, system logs, performance counters, network connectivity, services, registry settings,
and application dependencies to identify root causes.
- Maintain technical procedures, troubleshooting guides, operational runbooks, knowledge articles, and infrastructure documentation.
- Coordinate with application, network, security, database, VMware, cloud, and other infrastructure teams to resolve complex technical issues.
- Identify opportunities to improve Windows administration processes through automation, standardization, monitoring, and proactive remediation.
- On-Call & Production Support - Provide timely support for critical production incidents and participate in scheduled maintenance and after-hours activities when required.
- Participate in a 24x7 shift rotation as required by the team.
- Manage DNS and IP configurations, troubleshoot name-resolution issues, and work with Network teams to resolve connectivity and DNS-related problems.
- Create, monitor, validate, and remove VM snapshots in accordance with operational and change-management procedures while ensuring snapshot-related risks are appropriately managed.
- Coordinate with hardware and software vendors to troubleshoot and resolve hardware, firmware, driver, and OS-level issues, including vendor case management and follow-up.
- Troubleshoot disk-space issues, system slowdowns, high CPU and memory utilization, Windows service issues, and other performance-related problems. Analyze system resources and implement appropriate remediation.
- Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain Windows-based enterprise applications while coordinating with application owners and vendors as required.
- Configuring Group Policy Objects (GPOs) for security and compliance.
- Troubleshoot Windows Server issues, operating system errors, application issues, performance problems, service failures, connectivity issues, and patching failures.
- Resolve Level-2 escalations related to Windows OS, enterprise applications, system performance, connectivity, and infrastructure-related issues.
- Troubleshoot user access and authentication issues involving Active Directory, LDAP, Kerberos, Group Policy, domain controllers, security groups, and related authentication services.
- Participate in a 24x7 shift rotation to provide timely support for critical business operations, production incidents, planned maintenance, and infrastructure-related emergencies.
Required Skills Windows Software Engineer - L2,
candidates should have a strong technical foundation in Windows server environments, troubleshooting expertise, and automation skills. Below are the key skills required for this role:
- Experience in Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, 2019, and 2022
- Knowledge of Active Directory (AD) management, including users, groups, Group Policy, and Domain Controllers
- Familiarity with Windows Registry, Event Logs, Services, and Performance Monitoring
- Experience troubleshooting disk space, CPU/memory utilization, system performance, and application failures
- Hands-on experience with Windows Event Viewer, Sysinternals tools, and Performance Monitor (Perfmon)
- Hands-on knowledge of Remote Desktop Services (RDS) and troubleshooting RDS-related issues
- Experience with WSUS, SCCM/MECM, Tanium for Windows patch deployment and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of Windows Defender, security policies, and Windows security configurations
- Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere
- Experience managing Virtual Machines (VMs), snapshots, VMware Tools, and resource allocation
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, IP addressing, and VPN troubleshooting
- Knowledge of LDAP and Kerberos authentication and troubleshooting user access/authentication issues
- PowerShell scripting experience for automation, health checks, reporting, and bulk administrative operations
- Understanding of Windows-based enterprise applications and the .NET Framework
- Experience with Windows OS patching, vulnerability remediation, and security updates
- Experience troubleshooting Windows patching failures and OS-level issues
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills
- Ability to independently handle L2 incidents and technical escalations
- Ability to collaborate effectively with L1, L3, Application, Network, Security, Cloud, VMware, and other IT teams
- Experience coordinating with hardware/software vendors for OS-level, hardware, and application-related issues
- Working knowledge of ServiceNow for Incident, Request, Change, and Task management
- Ability to follow Standards, Processes & Procedures, Baseline Documents, and operational guidelines
- Good written and verbal communication skills with solid attention to detail
- Strong documentation skills and ability to create and maintain technical procedures, knowledge articles, and troubleshooting guides
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and manage business-critical incidents
- Willingness and ability to participate in a 24x7 shift rotation and provide production support when required
- Regularly communicate with technical leads, managers, and relevant stakeholders regarding problems, defects, security vulnerabilities, system changes, and future infrastructure requirements.
