About the Role
We are looking for a Social Media Specialist to join the Marketing & Communications team at Hare Krishna Movement Charitable Foundation. You will own social media across three distinct verticals — HKMCF's charitable programmes (Anna Canteen, Bhojanamritam, Government Schools Breakfast Scheme), the Basil Woods School Network, and Hare Krishna Heritage Tower.
Each of these has its own audience and its own reason for existing. One raises money from people who care. One helps parents choose where their child will spend the next ten years. One tells the story of a landmark. Range matters here more than a single polished style.
There are real stories happening across these organisations every day. Most of them are not being told well. We want someone who can change that, and whose ideas are valuable enough that we stop briefing them and start following them.
What Sits Under You
- All three organisations maintain separate social media accounts. You are accountable for every one of them — planning, content, publishing and performance.
- The content calendar across all three verticals, built around the festival, giving and admissions calendars.
- Content creation end to end. Concepting, shooting, editing, writing. We have designers and video editors you will work with, but you should be able to produce independently.
- Community management across every handle. Comments, DMs and enquiries. Donors and parents both ask questions before they commit.
- On-ground coverage. Kitchens, distribution points, government school programmes, school campuses and events, and Heritage Tower events. This is regular field work, not occasional.
- School Admissions and campaign content, planned in advance rather than assembled on the day.
- Reporting on what the work is actually achieving,
and adjusting based on it.
- Creative input into paid campaigns when asked. You will not run the ads, but the best ad we run should often have started as your idea.
- Consistency of visual and verbal language across each brand, in coordination with the design and video team.
What You Should Be Capable Of
- Walking into an ordinary day and finding three stories in it. Ideas are the job. Everything else is execution.
- Taking an idea from your head to a published post without needing a brief, a meeting, or someone else's approval to get started.
- Shooting and cutting something publishable yourself, so you are never sitting still because someone else is busy.
- Writing properly. Hooks, captions, scripts, long-form posts. Copy that sounds like a human being wrote it.
- Holding three different voices without ever mixing them up. What moves a donor is not what reassures a parent.
- Understanding why short-form video travels. The first two seconds, the pacing, the sound, the reason someone sends it to a friend.
- Publishing consistently, without being chased, in a week where everything else has gone wrong.
- Reading the numbers and changing your approach because of them, rather than defending what you already made.
- Briefing a designer or an editor well. A clear reference, a clear outcome, a real deadline.
- Being around real people, in kitchens and classrooms, and treating them with respect.
Consent first, always, and particular care with children.
- Being trusted with a public voice. All three brands carry reputations that took years to build.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 3 years running social media for a brand, nonprofit or agency.
- A body of work you personally made. Send the accounts. We will look at them properly.
- Proven organic growth you can explain. Not boosted numbers.
- Hands-on with shooting and editing. Premiere Pro, CapCut, Canva, or whatever gets it done well and fast.
- Fluent in English. Good in Hindi & Telugu is optional but helps.
- Genuinely prolific. If you produce one polished piece a fortnight, this is the wrong role.
- Comfortable working around temple culture, prasadam distribution and religious festivals.
Good to Have
- Experience across both a cause-led and a commercial brand.
- Working knowledge of AI creative tools to speed up ideation and production.
- Enough understanding of paid social to know what makes a good ad.
- Comfortable on camera, or good at making other people comfortable on it.
- Exposure to NGO, education or institutional communications.
Why This Role
- Work spans meaningful, visible public-facing projects — government partnerships, large-scale feeding programmes, school communications and a landmark institution.
- Direct mentorship from the Head of Marketing & Communications.
- Full access to everything. Kitchens, campuses, programmes, people.
- Designers and video editors to work alongside, and budget behind content that performs.
- Small, close-knit creative team with room to grow as the function scales.
- Genuine creative freedom. We are hiring you for your judgement, not to execute ours.
