Senior Research Analyst, IFLR / IP Stars and World Tax / Benchmark Litigation

ABOUT THE COMPANY
Our Legal Benchmarking Group business serves professionals across the financial and professional services sector, covering markets such as legal and banking sectors. We are a diversified business with services that support clients' market intelligence, business development, and workflow solutions. Our research department publishes market-leading information online for in-house counsel, external practitioners and industry leaders in core practice areas including international tax, international financial law, intellectual property, and litigation/arbitration.
Role Purpose
This role leads research execution across assigned jurisdictions and practice areas with a high degree of autonomy, producing high-quality analysis of law firm submissions, practitioner interviews and survey data to support rankings, editorial insight and awards decision-making. The role also owns day-to-day team workflow quality and contributes to the wider research strategy.
Key Responsibilities
1. Research Leadership & Analysis
• Lead comprehensive market research and competitive analysis, including legal trends and case studies, across assigned jurisdictions and practice areas.
- Evaluate and prepare law firm rankings, practitioner rankings and market analysis using qualitative and quantitative evidence (submissions, interviews, survey results, independent data).
- Prepare draft ranking proposals, awards recommendations and supporting rationale for review and final sign-off by the Head of Brand Research.
- Monitor global and regional trends to provide insight into market evolution.
1. Team & Workflow Ownership
• Own day-to-day delivery of team workflows, ensuring deadlines, trackers and research records are maintained accurately and consistently by junior analysts.
- Apply established methodology and research standards consistently; identify issues,
gaps or exceptions requiring escalation.
- Escalate sensitive, disputed or high-impact decisions to the Head of IFLR Research with transparent analysis and recommendations.
1. Stakeholder & Market Engagement
• Produce research summaries, briefings and presentations that communicate findings and recommendations clearly to internal stakeholders.
- Represent the brand in external meetings, legal conferences and events where appropriate.
- Provide support and insight for the development of marketing collateral and client-facing materials.
1. Process Improvement & Coverage Expansion
• Contribute to process improvement by identifying practical ways to strengthen research quality, efficiency and consistency.
- Support expansion of research coverage into current jurisdictions by contributing to market-entry frameworks and pilot studies/assessments.
- Support the development of a scalable emerging-markets research strategy aligned with business priorities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law, Business, Economics, Statistics, or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience in market research, legal research, competitive intelligence, KPO/LPO, or a related analytical role.
- Demonstrated experience in project and stakeholder management, including managing trackers, deadlines and reporting.
- Proven experience handling large volumes of data and producing high-quality, autonomous research outputs.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication, presentation and notetaking skills.
- Working knowledge of legal industry structures and practice areas (e.g., tax, IP, litigation, corporate, finance) preferred.
- Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; working knowledge of Power BI or Tableau preferred.
- Familiarity with legal/financial research databases (Westlaw, LexisNexis, Bloomberg Law, PitchBook, Mergermarket, Refinitiv/CapIQ) preferred.
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity when engaging with stakeholders across diverse geographies.
- Sound judgement in handling confidential or sensitive submission and survey data.
- Willingness to work hours/shifts aligned with global (UK/US) stakeholders as required.
- Solution-oriented mindset with strong organisational, multitasking and problem-solving skills.

Success Measures
- Ranking and award recommendations are well-evidenced, timely and require minimal rework at sign-off.
- Team trackers, deadlines and research records remain accurate and consistent across junior analysts.
- Escalations are raised proactively with clear analysis, not after deadlines are missed.
- Stakeholders (internal and market participants) report clear, credible communication of findings.
- Mentoring contributes to measurable improvement in junior analyst output quality.
Role Boundaries
- This is a senior individual-contributor role. It currently carries workflow ownership and informal mentoring responsibility, but not formal people-management (no direct reports) unless otherwise designated by the business.
- Final sign-off on rankings, awards recommendations and high-impact or disputed decisions rests with the Head of Brand Research.
- Does not independently set methodology or research standards — applies and helps refine standards set centrally.
