Job Summary

The Blood Bank Technician is responsible for collecting, processing, testing, storing, and issuing blood and blood components while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies. The role involves maintaining quality and safety throughout the blood transfusion process and supporting clinical teams in providing protected blood products to patients.
Key Responsibilities
Blood Collection & Donor Management
Assist in donor registration, screening, and counseling.
Perform blood collection procedures following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Monitor donor health during and after blood donation.
Maintain donor records and ensure confidentiality.
Blood Processing & Component Preparation
Separate whole blood into components such as:
Packed Red Blood Cells (PRBC)
Fresh Frozen Plasma (FFP)
Platelet Concentrates
Cryoprecipitate
Label and store blood components according to regulatory guidelines.
Ensure proper handling and transportation of blood products.
Laboratory Testing
Perform blood grouping and Rh typing.




Conduct compatibility testing (Cross-Matching).
Screen donor blood for transfusion-transmitted infections (TTIs) as per guidelines.
Perform antibody screening and other immunohematology tests.
Maintain accuracy and reliability of test results.
Blood Storage & Inventory Management
Monitor blood storage equipment and temperature records.
Maintain adequate stock levels of blood and blood components.
Track blood inventory, expiry dates, and wastage.
Coordinate with clinical departments for blood requisitions.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Adhere to National Blood Transfusion Council (NBTC), Drugs & Cosmetics Act, NABH, and hospital guidelines.
Participate in internal and external quality control programs.
Maintain documentation and records accurately.
Report deviations, incidents, and adverse transfusion reactions promptly.
