We’re looking for an experienced Back-end Java Engineer to help build the services underneath it.

What you’ll do

You’ll join a small, autonomous team working end-to-end—from system design through production. You’ll own services, make architectural decisions, and solve problems where reliability, privacy, performance, and scale all matter.

The environment is deliberately dynamic. Priorities evolve as new capabilities land, threat models change, and dependencies shift. We value engineers who can take a goal, figure out how to achieve it, and challenge the goal itself when necessary.

You’ll work across teams and build frameworks and services used by our team, other engineering teams, and the wider developer community.

What we’re looking for

- 5+ years of production engineering experience, with depth of experience more important than the exact number of years.
- Deep expertise in Java, including the memory model, GC behavior and tuning, allocation pressure, java.util.concurrent, and modern concurrency models such as virtual threads and reactive programming.
- Experience debugging complex production issues involving real-world load, concurrency,



or distributed systems.
- Strong experience building and scaling customer-facing web services, including authentication, authorization, availability, abuse/spam controls, reliability, and performance.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, including consistency, partitioning, failure modes, and resilience.
- Experience with Cassandra, Redis, memcached, or comparable storage and caching technologies.
- Experience building REST services using Netty or similar frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD and automated testing.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills—you can explain complex technical decisions to both engineers and non-engineers and write design documents that others can execute on.

Nice to have
- Knowledge of cryptography and security standards/protocols, including PKCS, KMIP, X.509, AES, KDF, and CA concepts.
- Experience or familiarity with ML systems, frameworks, or algorithms.
- Experience with GitHub, Maven, Docker, Spinnaker, Kubernetes, or similar build and deployment technologies.

The kind of engineer who will thrive here You don't need a perfectly predictable roadmap. In fact, you should be comfortable when the plan changes.

You should enjoy ambiguity, take ownership, challenge assumptions, and care deeply about what happens after your code reaches production.

This is a long-term assignment in a complex and technically challenging domain.
