About the Job
We are looking for an experienced Section In-charge – Mechanical to lead the maintenance and reliability of critical mechanical equipment in a Chlor-Alkali plant. The role will be responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations through preventive and predictive maintenance, equipment reliability improvement, cost optimization, statutory compliance, and effective resource management.
The incumbent will manage mechanical maintenance activities covering pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, pipelines, valves, tanks, and rotating equipment, while working closely with Process, Instrumentation, Electrical, Stores, Purchase, and other cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
Lead maintenance and reliability activities for all mechanical equipment in the Chlor-Alkali plant, including pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, pipelines, valves, tanks, and rotating equipment.
Focus on preventive maintenance, breakdown maintenance, statutory compliance, and continuous improvement to ensure safe and reliable plant operations.
Identify opportunities for process and equipment improvements and implement maintenance and reliability improvement projects.
Respond effectively to emergency situations such as equipment failures and safety incidents, taking appropriate actions to mitigate risks and minimize downtime.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment history, and performance data using SAP.
Maintain an inventory of critical spare parts and ensure their availability to support timely equipment repairs and replacements.
Prepare and manage maintenance plans, manpower deployment, and budgetary/cost reporting.
Collaborate with equipment suppliers, contractors, and service providers to ensure maintenance activities are executed as per industry standards and specifications.
Manage contracts and service agreements as required.
Manage the maintenance budget for the section, including expense forecasting, cost control, and optimization of resources allocated to maintenance activities.
Ensure implementation of IMS procedures within the section.
Ensure legal and statutory compliance related to mechanical maintenance activities.
Plan and procure RM/spares for equipment to ensure timely availability.
Execute cost optimization, energy conservation, and productivity improvement initiatives.
Key Individual Accountabilities
- Mechanical Maintenance & Equipment Reliability
Ensure the health and reliability of all plant assets.
Ensure effective management of the section, including budgeting, start-up, shutdown, efficiency improvement, and execution of preventive maintenance.
Monitor and control plant budget and CAPEX requirements.
Plan and execute preventive and predictive maintenance activities to minimize equipment failures and downtime.
Drive equipment reliability and availability improvement initiatives.
Implement advanced maintenance practices across the section.
Ensure effective maintenance of critical mechanical and rotating equipment.
- Spare Parts & Resource Management
Plan and procure RM/spares for equipment based on maintenance requirements and criticality.
Ensure availability of critical spare parts for timely equipment repair and replacement.
Coordinate with Stores and Purchase teams to ensure timely procurement and availability of maintenance materials.
Optimize resource utilization while maintaining equipment reliability and operational continuity.
- SAP & Maintenance Systems
Ensure effective utilization of SAP PM & MM modules for maintenance planning, execution, material management, and reporting.
Maintain accurate equipment history, maintenance records, and relevant technical data in SAP.
Monitor maintenance activities and ensure timely closure and documentation of maintenance orders.
- Safety, Statutory & Compliance
Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, statutory, environmental, and audit requirements.
Ensure implementation of IMS procedures and company maintenance standards.
Maintain awareness of applicable government legislation and statutory requirements.
Ensure maintenance activities are conducted in accordance with prescribed safety procedures.
Support internal and external audits and ensure timely closure of observations.
- People & Stakeholder Management
Drive people engagement and development within the mechanical maintenance team.
Plan manpower requirements and ensure effective deployment of resources.
Coordinate with Process, Instrumentation, Electrical, Stores, Purchase, Accounts, and other plant functions to ensure smooth maintenance operations.
Manage contractors and manpower engaged in mechanical maintenance activities.
Build effective relationships with internal and external customers, contractors, vendors, and service providers.
- Cost Optimization & Continuous Improvement
Monitor maintenance expenditure and drive cost control initiatives.
Identify opportunities for cost optimization, energy conservation, and productivity improvement.
Drive continuous improvement in equipment reliability, maintenance efficiency, and resource utilization.
Support CAPEX planning and execution for mechanical equipment and maintenance requirements.

Technical & Behavioral Skills & Knowledge
B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
7–8 years of experience in medium to large-scale Chemical / Chlor-Alkali industries.
Strong knowledge of mechanical maintenance and equipment reliability in chemical/process plants.
Experience in maintenance of pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, pipelines, valves, tanks, and rotating equipment.
Strong understanding of preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance practices.
Knowledge of maintenance planning, spare parts management, budgeting, CAPEX, and cost control.
Working knowledge of SAP, preferably SAP PM and MM modules.
Knowledge of ISO standards, IMS procedures, and applicable statutory requirements.
Solid problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong prioritization, planning, organization, and analytical thinking skills.
Ability to manage contractors, maintenance teams, and multiple maintenance priorities effectively.
