Role: Python Backend Developer

About the Role

Hotelogix is looking for a skilled Python Backend Developer to work on the next generation of our cloud-based Hotel System & associated products.

The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in Python, Flask, REST APIs, microservices and MySQL, along with good backend engineering, problem-solving and debugging skills.

You will work on business-critical modules such as reservations, room inventory, rates, payments, guest management and hotel operations, building scalable and reliable backend services.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop and maintain backend services using Python and Flask.
- Build scalable, secure and high-performance RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Develop complex business workflows for reservations, inventory, rates, payments and other hotel operations.
- Design clean and maintainable application, service and database layers.
- Work extensively with MySQL, including complex queries, transactions, indexing and query optimization.
- Develop database interactions using SQLAlchemy or similar ORM frameworks.
- Handle transactions, concurrency and data consistency for critical business operations.
- Write unit, integration and API tests using pytest or equivalent frameworks.
- Implement proper input validation, exception handling, logging and API error handling.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application, API, database and production performance issues.
- Work with Redis/caching where required for performance and scalability.
- Integrate with internal microservices and external/third-party APIs.
- Participate in code reviews and maintain high standards for code quality, security and maintainability.
- Collaborate with Product, QA, DevOps and other engineering teams.
- Work with Git-based development workflows, pull requests and code reviews.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum development, estimation and sprint activities.

Must-Have Skills: Python & Flask





- 3-6 years of software development experience with strong hands-on experience in Python backend development.
- Solid knowledge of Python 3.x.
- Good understanding of OOP, data structures, exception handling, decorators, generators, modules/packages and Python best practices.
- Hands-on experience developing production applications using Flask or a comparable Python web framework.
- Ability to write clean, modular, reusable and testable code.

REST APIs & Microservices

- Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
- Hands-on experience working with microservices architecture.
- Good understanding of:
- HTTP methods and status codes
- API request/response design
- Authentication and authorization
- Input/request validation
- Service-to-service communication
- API versioning
- Exception and error handling
- Idempotency
- Ability to develop APIs involving complex business logic, not just basic CRUD operations.

MySQL & SQL

- Hands-on experience with MySQL or similar relational databases.
- Good working knowledge of SQL, including JOINs, aggregations, subqueries, and CRUD operations.

- Good understanding of
- Database tables, relationships, primary and foreign keys

- Basic indexing concepts
- Database transactions and data consistency
- Ability to write and troubleshoot SQL queries used in backend applications.
- Basic understanding of query optimization and database performance.
- Exposure to concepts such as concurrency, locking, and transaction handling is an advantage.

ORM

- Hands-on experience with SQLAlchemy or similar Python ORM.
- Ability to understand the underlying SQL generated by ORM operations.




- Comfortable using direct SQL where appropriate.

Automated Testing

- Experience with pytest or equivalent Python testing frameworks.
- Ability to write:
- Unit tests
- Integration tests
- API tests
- Mock-based tests
- Positive, negative and boundary test cases

Security Good understanding of backend and API security concepts, including:

- Authentication and authorization
- JWT/token-based authentication
- Input validation
- SQL injection prevention
- API access control
- Secure configuration and secrets handling
- Basic OWASP/API security principles

Development Environment & Tools Hands-on experience with:

- Git
- GitHub/Bitbucket or similar
- Linux/Ubuntu
- Docker
- Application logging and debugging
- Production issue troubleshooting

Good-to-Have Skills Experience with any of the following will be an advantage:

- Redis
