Position: PYP Homeroom Teacher Primary Grades

1. Position Summary

The PYP Homeroom Teacher will be responsible for planning, facilitating and assessing engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences for students in the assigned primary grade. The teacher will support the academic, social, emotional and personal development of students while implementing the philosophy, framework and principles of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP).

The role requires a student-centred approach, strong classroom management, effective collaboration with colleagues and regular engagement with parents to support each child's overall development.

1. Key Responsibilities

A. Teaching & Learning
- Plan and facilitate engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences aligned with the IB PYP framework.
- Develop and implement transdisciplinary units of inquiry in collaboration with the PYP team.
- Deliver age-appropriate learning experiences across core areas as required for the assigned grade.
- Promote conceptual understanding, critical thinking, creativity, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Integrate the IB Learner Profile and Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills into classroom practices.
- Encourage students to become independent, reflective and responsible learners.
- Differentiate instruction to address varied learning needs, abilities and learning styles.
- Integrate appropriate technology and hands-on learning experiences into teaching.

B. Assessment & Student Progress
- Plan and implement formative and summative assessment strategies.
- Monitor and document students' academic progress and overall development.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date assessment records and student portfolios.
- Provide constructive and timely feedback to students.
- Prepare student progress reports in accordance with school and PYP requirements.




- Identify students requiring additional academic or learning support and work collaboratively with the relevant support team.

C. Classroom Management & Student Well-being
- Establish a safe, inclusive, respectful and stimulating classroom environment.
- Promote positive behaviour, mutual respect and responsible citizenship.
- Develop strong and positive relationships with students.
- Support students' social-emotional development and well-being.
- Encourage student voice, choice, agency and ownership of learning.
- Ensure classroom routines, discipline and safety procedures are consistently followed.

D. Parent & Community Engagement
- Maintain regular and professional communication with parents regarding students' learning, progress and well-being.
- Conduct parent meetings and participate in student conferences as required.
- Share relevant learning updates and classroom information with parents through approved school platforms.
- Address parent concerns professionally and escalate matters to the PYP Coordinator or school leadership when required.
- Build positive partnerships between home and school.

E. Collaboration & PYP Responsibilities
- Collaborate with PYP Coordinators, grade-level teachers, specialist teachers and support staff.
- Participate actively in grade-level planning and collaborative planning sessions.
- Contribute to the development, review and improvement of Units of Inquiry.
- Participate in PYP meetings, professional learning communities and school-wide initiatives.
- Contribute to exhibitions, assemblies, field trips, celebrations and other school events.
- Stay updated with IB PYP practices, educational trends and effective teaching methodologies.
- Participate in professional development programmes and IB-related training as required.




- Ensure teaching and learning practices are aligned with IB standards and school policies.

1. Qualifications & Experience

- Bachelor's degree in Education or a relevant discipline.
- B.Ed. or equivalent teaching qualification is preferred.
- Minimum 25 years of teaching experience in primary grades; experience in an IB/PYP or international school will be preferred.
- IB PYP training/certification will be an added advantage.
- Robust understanding of inquiry-based and student-centred learning.
- Experience in planning and implementing transdisciplinary learning is preferred.
- Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using technology and digital tools for teaching and learning.
