Desired profile of the candidate Role Description The Poultry Doctor will lead the health, productivity and operational efficiency of our poultry operations breeder farms, hatchery, feed management, disease prevention, contract farming and processing plant audits working closely with farm managers, hatchery technicians, feed specialists and processing units to protect flock health and product quality.
/ Responsibilities
1. Breeder Farm Management:
- Health Monitoring: Monitor breeder flock health to ensure optimal egg production and fertility rates.
- Disease Prevention: Run vaccination and biosecurity programs against Avian Influenza, Newcastle Disease and Infectious Bronchitis.
- Reproductive Health: Diagnose and address fertility, hatchability and egg quality issues.
- Records: Maintain flock health, vaccination and production records.
2. Hatchery Operations:
- Incubation Management: Oversee egg handling, incubation and hatching to maximize hatchability and chick quality.
- Hygiene & Biosecurity: Ensure hatchery hygiene and biosecurity to prevent disease transmission.
- Chick Health: Assess day-old chick health, including early disease detection and vaccination.
- Quality Audits: Audit hatchery processes against industry standards.
3. Feed Management:
- Feed Formulation & QA:
Work with nutritionists on feed formulas; inspect ingredients and finished feed for quality and safety.
- Feed Efficiency: Monitor FCR and recommend additives/supplements to improve flock performance.
4. Disease Diagnosis & Management:
- Diagnosis & Treatment: Conduct clinical exams, necropsies and lab tests; prescribe treatment per regulations.
- Outbreak Response: Develop disease control strategies and manage outbreak containment.
5. Contract Farming Support:
- Farmer Training & Audits: Train contract farmers on rearing and biosecurity; audit farms for compliance and performance.
6. Processing Plant Audits:
- Compliance & QC: Audit processing plants for FSSAI/HACCP compliance, hygiene, animal welfare and traceability.
7. General:
- Advisory & Reporting: Advise farm/hatchery/processing teams; ensure regulatory compliance; report health, production and audit findings to management
Desired profile of the candidate
- Ability to diagnose and control poultry diseases effectively.
- Solid understanding of biosecurity protocols.
- Skills in optimizing breeder, hatchery and processing operations.
- Proficiency in audits and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to train and support contract farmers.
- Poultry veterinary/health management background required. Prior exposure to the Maharashtra poultry belt or Cobb breed is a strong plus.
