About the Role
Whyte Farms is looking for a hands-on and experienced Poultry Farm Manager to establish and manage a commercial poultry farm at Tijara.
This is an end-to-end role beginning with farm planning, shed development, equipment selection, vendor coordination, bird procurement, manpower planning and farm commissioning. Once the farm becomes operational, the Farm Manager will be responsible for flock performance, bird health, biosecurity, feed management, manpower, maintenance, cost control, documentation and overall farm profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Farm Setup and Commissioning
- Participate in planning and developing the poultry farm from the initial stage.
- Coordinate the construction and completion of poultry sheds according to the approved capacity and layout.
- Oversee civil, electrical, plumbing, ventilation, drainage, water supply, lighting, cooling and waste-management requirements.
- Coordinate with architects, contractors, fabricators, electricians, plumbers and equipment suppliers.
- Monitor project timelines, workmanship, material quality and setup costs.
- Ensure all sheds and supporting infrastructure are ready before bird placement.
• Select, install and commission feeding, drinking, brooding, ventilation, cooling, power-backup and water-treatment systems.
Bird Procurement and Flock Management
- Develop the flock placement cycle in coordination with reliable hatcheries and suppliers.
- Evaluate suitable breeds or strains based on the farms production model.
- Coordinate the procurement and protected arrival of day-old chicks, pullets or birds.
- Monitor daily flock health, growth, mortality, feed and water consumption, temperature,
humidity and stocking density.
- Identify early signs of disease, stress or poor flock performance and take timely corrective action.
• Implement appropriate flock-management and all-in/all-out practices.
Biosecurity and Veterinary Coordination
- Develop and implement vaccination, deworming and preventive-health programmes in consultation with veterinarians.
- Maintain strict controls over the entry of people, vehicles, materials and equipment.
- Ensure proper farm sanitation, disinfection and shed cleaning between batches.
- Maintain accurate health, vaccination, treatment and mortality records.
• Coordinate an immediate response in the event of a suspected disease outbreak.
Feed, Inventory and Procurement
- Forecast requirements for feed, medicines, vaccines, disinfectants, bedding material, PPE and farm consumables.
- Ensure adequate stock availability while avoiding shortages and excess inventory.
- Monitor feed quality, storage conditions and consumption.
• Coordinate with approved suppliers and verify deliveries against purchase orders.
Team and Farm Operations
- Recruit, train and supervise farm workers and support staff.
- Allocate shifts and monitor attendance, discipline and productivity.
- Establish daily operating routines, SOPs and emergency procedures.
- Ensure safe working practices and proper use of farm machinery and equipment.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance and timely repair of sheds, machinery and utilities.
Performance and Cost Management
- Track flock performance against agreed operational and financial targets.
- Monitor mortality, feed conversion ratio, body weight, egg production and uniformity, as applicable to the production model.
- Analyse underperformance and initiate corrective action.
- Control expenditure on feed, medicines, utilities, labour, fuel and maintenance.
• Monitor production cost per bird, kilogram or egg, as applicable.
Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain accurate records for bird placement, mortality, feed consumption, vaccination, medicines, production, inventory and dispatch.
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly operational reports for management.
• Ensure compliance with applicable animal-welfare, environmental, hygiene and safety requirements.
Preferred candidate profile
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in commercial poultry farm operations.
- Prior experience in setting up or commissioning a poultry farm will be strongly preferred.
- Sound knowledge of layer or broiler management, flock health, nutrition, vaccination and biosecurity.
- Ability to manage contractors, hatcheries, veterinarians, feed suppliers, equipment vendors and farm labour independently.
- Strong problem-solving, planning and decision-making ability.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on farm environment and responding to operational emergencies.
- Willing to be based at or travel regularly to Tijara, Rajasthan.
