Role & responsibilities
- Prepare the Ophthalmic OT before scheduled surgical procedures.
- Ensure availability and proper functioning of ophthalmic surgical instruments, equipment, and consumables.
- Assist Ophthalmologists during procedures such as cataract surgery, SICS, phacoemulsification, glaucoma, corneal and other ophthalmic surgeries.
- Perform appropriate cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and maintenance of surgical instruments.
- Assist in setting up surgical trays and maintaining sterile conditions throughout procedures.
- Handle and operate ophthalmic OT equipment as per hospital protocols.
- Check OT equipment, microscopes, phaco machines, cautery, suction, and other relevant equipment before surgery.
- Assist in patient positioning and preparation as directed by the clinical team.
- Maintain proper documentation of OT procedures, instrument usage, sterilization, and consumables.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and inventory of surgical instruments and consumables.
- Follow infection-prevention, biomedical waste management, and patient-safety protocols.
- Coordinate with Ophthalmologists, nurses, anesthesia staff, and other OT personnel for smooth conduct of surgeries.
- Assist with post-operative OT cleaning and preparation for the next procedure.
- Report equipment malfunction, shortage of supplies, or any OT-related issue to the concerned supervisor.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct at all times.
Preferred candidate profile
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Diploma/B.Sc. in Ophthalmic Technology / Ophthalmic Techniques / Optometry or relevant qualification.
- 15 years of experience as an Ophthalmic OT Technician, preferably in a hospital or medical college.
- Hands-on experience in cataract, phacoemulsification, SICS, glaucoma and other ophthalmic surgeries.
- Good knowledge of ophthalmic surgical instruments, OT setup, sterilization and infection-control protocols.
- Familiarity with operating microscope, phaco machine, cautery and other ophthalmic OT equipment.
- Strong ability to assist Ophthalmologists during surgical procedures.
- Good communication, teamwork and coordination skills.
- Disciplined, responsible and patient-oriented approach.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced hospital setting and rotational shifts.
- Candidates with experience in a medical college / tertiary-care hospital will be preferred.
