Lead Software Engineer / Technical Architect

Role Overview
We are looking for a highly capable Lead Software Engineer / Technical Architect who will take ownership of SAITC's core software architecture and backend engineering.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You will design scalable systems, write production code, guide engineering decisions, review code, and work closely with the founders and other engineers to turn business requirements into reliable software.
As an early-stage startup, responsibilities are intentionally somewhat fluid. While your primary ownership will be architecture and backend engineering, you may occasionally contribute across other areas of the product and engineering lifecycle when the needs of the business require it.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Technical Leadership
Design scalable architectures for AI applications, SaaS platforms, APIs, customer portals, and enterprise integrations.
Define technical standards, development practices, coding conventions, and architectural patterns across SAITC.
Make decisions regarding application architecture, databases, APIs, authentication, authorization, caching, queues, integrations, and scalability.
Design multi-tenant architectures that securely support multiple SAITC customers from shared infrastructure.
Review technical requirements and translate business requirements into practical engineering solutions.
Conduct code reviews and maintain engineering quality across the team.
Mentor engineers and provide technical direction.
Participate in technical discussions and client meetings when architectural input is required.
Backend Engineering
Design and develop production backend services primarily using Python and FastAPI.
Build REST APIs and, where appropriate, real-time and streaming APIs.
Design and optimize PostgreSQL databases, schemas, queries, transactions, and indexes.
Implement authentication, authorization, role-based access control, tenant isolation, and API security.
Build integrations with customer systems including ERP, CRM, Odoo, databases, third-party APIs, and enterprise platforms.
Design asynchronous processing, queues, background workers, caching, and other supporting backend services where required.
Build application services supporting AI chatbots, AI agents, document processing, customer portals, and SaaS products.
Ensure backend systems are reliable, maintainable, observable, and production-ready.
AI Application Architecture
Work closely with the Applied AI Engineer to integrate AI capabilities into production software.
Define service boundaries between core application services and AI services.
Design architectures for RAG, model gateways, AI agents, document processing, and AI-powered workflows.
Support integrations with OpenAI, Google Gemini, OCI Generative AI, open-source models, and other providers.
Ensure AI services are securely integrated with business systems and customer data.
Security & Reliability
Establish secure software architecture and development practices.
Work with the Cloud/DevOps Engineer to implement authentication, authorization, encryption, secrets management, logging, auditability, and tenant isolation.
Participate in threat modeling and security reviews for customer solutions.
Ensure systems are designed with appropriate availability, backup, disaster recovery, and failure-handling mechanisms.
Testing & Quality
Establish engineering testing standards.
Ensure developers write appropriate unit, integration, and API tests.
Review test coverage for critical backend functionality.
Work with the Cloud/DevOps Engineer on end-to-end and release testing.
Participate in production incident analysis and root-cause investigations.
Required Skills
6+ years of professional software engineering experience; 6–10+ years preferred.
Strong Python experience.
Strong FastAPI or equivalent production Python backend experience.
Strong PostgreSQL/database design experience.
Strong understanding of REST APIs and backend architecture.
Strong experience with Docker and Linux.
Experience designing and deploying production systems.
Strong understanding of authentication, authorization, security, and API design.
Experience with cloud platforms such as OCI, AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Strong Git/GitHub experience.
Experience with automated testing and CI/CD concepts.
Positive understanding of modern AI application architectures including LLM APIs, RAG, embeddings, agents, and model gateways.
Preferred Skills
OCI experience.
Terraform/IaC.
Redis.
Message queues and asynchronous architectures.
Kubernetes.
Observability/OpenTelemetry.
Multi-tenant SaaS architecture.
Experience integrating ERP/CRM systems.
Experience building enterprise software.
Experience working directly with business clients.
Startup Environment
SAITC is an early-stage company, so we value people who are comfortable with ownership and ambiguity. Your primary responsibilities will remain clearly defined, but the role may evolve as the company, team, and client requirements grow. You may be required to contribute outside your core area when necessary, collaborate closely with other functions, and take initiative without waiting for detailed instructions.
We are looking for someone who wants to help build the engineering organization, not simply occupy a predefined position within one.
What Success Looks Like
Within the first 6–12 months, this person should establish a strong SAITC engineering foundation in which:
new products follow consistent architectural patterns;
backend systems are reusable across multiple clients;
customer data is properly isolated;
deployments are repeatable;
engineers can work independently;
AI capabilities integrate cleanly with application systems;
- technical debt is controlled rather than accumulating rapidly.
