Founding Engineer : Healthcare Software Developer

Location: Remote to start (India or elsewhere), with travel to Kenya. Relocation to Nairobi possible later, not required.

Experience: 1 to 5 years (graduating batch 2020 to 2025)

About Co a Stanford-founded startup building for emerging markets. We build and operate hospital management systems for clinics and county hospitals in Kenya. We are integrating acquired hospital software (HMIS, LMIS, pharmacy, radiology, billing) into one coherent, AI-native platform, deployed at county scale: real hospitals, real patients, real infrastructure.

We are an AI-first engineering team: everyone builds with Claude Code and frontier LLM tooling daily, and we hire people who already work that way.

Job Specs

- Integrate hospital systems (HMIS, lab, pharmacy, radiology, billing) into one platform: HL7, FHIR, ICD-11, and DB-level integration where vendor APIs do not exist
- Stand up and operate the infrastructure: cloud and on-premise servers at hospital sites, databases (SQL Server, Postgres), networking, backups, monitoring, uptime
- Build product surfaces and AI-powered clinical workflow features on top of the integrated stack
- Own systems end to end, ship quick, and see your work running in live hospitals within weeks

Process

Application and a 30-minute screening call (including a live look at how you work with your AI tooling)
2. Timed take-home (about 4 hours inside a 48-hour window), built with AI tools, screen-recorded: a small systems-integration exercise
3. Final interview: online (video), with the founders
4. Offer, with target start within 2 to 4 weeks

Preferred candidate profile Key Requirements

- A degree from an IIT (B.Tech or dual, CS, EE, or related) or a top US CS program (MIT, Stanford, CMU, Berkeley, Georgia Tech, or comparable), batch 2020 to 2025, with 1 to 5 years building real software
- If you studied or worked in the US and moved back because of visa constraints, we would especially like to hear from you: this role is remote-first and visa-independent
- A daily user of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) who can show real work built this way; our hiring process tests this directly
- Strong SQL and at least one backend language (Python, TypeScript, Go, Java, or C#), comfortable on Linux and with Docker
- High agency: you can take an ambiguous goal, an undocumented legacy vendor system, and a deadline, and come back with something working

- Willing to travel to Kenya for multi-week deployment stints

Bonus: healthcare interoperability (HL7/FHIR), experience with .NET or Java legacy systems, DevOps or DBA depth, prior startup experience.
