Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced EPUB Developer responsible for creating, converting, testing, and validating high-quality EPUB eBooks from source documents such as PDF, InDesign, Word, and XML. The candidate should have strong knowledge of EPUB standards, HTML, CSS, XML, and digital publishing workflows.

The ideal candidate should also have experience in EPUB accessibility, troubleshooting validation errors, and ensuring that EPUB files meet publishing and accessibility requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Create and develop EPUB 2 and EPUB 3 files from various source formats.
- Convert PDF, InDesign, Word, XML, and other source files into accessible and well-structured EPUBs.
- Develop and modify HTML, XHTML, CSS, XML, and OPF files.
- Create and manage EPUB navigation, table of contents, metadata, page lists, and landmarks.
- Ensure proper formatting of text, images, tables, footnotes, hyperlinks, and other book elements.
- Implement EPUB accessibility features according to required accessibility standards.
- Add and validate appropriate accessibility metadata, semantic structures, headings, alt text, and reading order.
- Perform EPUB validation using tools such as EPUBCheck and troubleshoot validation errors and warnings.
- Test EPUB files across different e-readers, browsers, and reading applications.
- Identify and resolve formatting, structural, navigation, and rendering issues.
- Review source files and identify potential conversion or accessibility issues.
- Follow client-specific publishing and accessibility guidelines.
- Perform quality checks before final delivery.
- Maintain proper folder structures, file naming conventions, and documentation.
- Coordinate with the production, accessibility, QA,



and project management teams to resolve issues.

Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of EPUB 3 / EPUB 2 standards.
- Good knowledge of HTML/XHTML, CSS, XML, OPF, NCX, and EPUB package structure.
- Experience with EPUBCheck and EPUB validation.
- Knowledge of EPUB accessibility and WCAG principles.
- Understanding of semantic HTML and proper document structure.
- Knowledge of metadata, navigation documents, TOC, landmarks, page lists, and reading order.
- Good understanding of image handling, hyperlinks, tables, footnotes, and cross-references.
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
- Good attention to detail and quality-focused approach.

Preferred Skills
- Experience with DAISY / accessible publishing.
- Knowledge of ARIA roles and attributes.
- Experience working with screen-reader accessibility requirements.
- Knowledge of InDesign to EPUB conversion.
- Experience with automated EPUB processing or scripting using Python, JavaScript, or other programming languages is an advantage.
- Familiarity with accessibility testing tools and assistive technologies is an advantage.

Education
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, IT, Publishing, or a related field.
- Relevant EPUB/Digital Publishing experience will also be considered.
