Company Overview
Smartivity STEM toys make learning fun as the creators of tomorrow create their toys from scratch. Our made-in-India toys help kids aged 6 to 14 grasp the fundamentals of science as they build, break, experiment, tinker, and learn through play. Our toys run on STEM, powering the engine of the mind. STEAM is Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. We are looking for a talented Electronics Designer who can design electronic components and systems for toys.
Key Responsibilities:
● Design and develop electronic circuits and systems for DIY toys, educational products, gadgets, and consumer electronics.
● Independently design PCBs from schematic to manufacturing-ready files.
● Develop complex multi-layer PCBs, including component placement, routing, power distribution, signal integrity, grounding, and EMI/EMC considerations.
● Select appropriate electronic components based on functionality, availability, cost, size, reliability, and manufacturability.
● Create schematics, PCB layouts, BOMs, and other technical documentation.
● Understand and troubleshoot existing electronic circuits, PCBs, and electronic gadgets.
● Work on miniaturized and space-constrained electronics, integrating PCBs with mechanical/toy structures.
● Design circuits involving MCUs, sensors, motors, LEDs, switches, displays, communication modules, batteries, charging circuits, and audio systems.
● Prototype, test, debug, and iterate electronic designs from concept to production.
● Perform circuit-level troubleshooting using tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power supplies.
● Work closely with product design and development team, QC team, procurement team and production team to integrate electronics into toys and products.
Required Technical Skills
● Strong understanding of analog and digital electronics.
● Proficiency in PCB design software such as Altium Designer, KiCad, Eagle, OrCAD, or equivalent.
● Strong understanding of multi-layer PCB design and complex PCB routing.
Good knowledge of:
○ Microcontrollers and embedded electronics
○ Power supplies and battery-operated circuits
○ Motor drivers and control circuits
○ Sensors and switches, LEDs and displays, Audio circuits, RF/wireless modules
● Understanding of PCB manufacturing, PCB assembly, soldering, and component packages.
Product & Gadget Understanding The candidate should have a strong interest in understanding how electronic gadgets and toys work.
You should be comfortable with:
● Opening and analyzing existing electronic products.
● Understanding the function of different electronic components and circuits.
● Reverse-engineering simple electronic systems.
● Identifying how electronics can be simplified, optimized, or redesigned.
● Converting a product concept into a practical electronic solution.
● Integrating electronics into children's toys and interactive products.
● Balancing electronics performance with cost, size, safety, usability, and manufacturability.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is not just a PCB layout engineer, but a hands-on electronics product designer who can understand the complete journey:
Concept → Circuit Design → Schematic → Complex PCB Design → Prototype → Debugging → Product Integration → Production
Qualifications
● Bachelor's degree/diploma in Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a related field.
● Minimum 2 years of relevant hands-on experience in electronics design and PCB development.
● Robust practical knowledge of electronics and PCB design.
● Experience taking PCB designs from concept/prototype through manufacturing is highly preferred.
● Candidates with strong personal electronics projects, DIY products, or maker experience are encouraged to apply.
