Design Engineer (Battery Energy Storage Systems)
Position Name: Design Engineer
Department: BESS -Engineering
Location: Chakan, Pune

Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to join our Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) division. The role involves designing, developing, and integrating mechanical systems for advanced energy storage solutions, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company guidelines.
Key Responsibilities -
1. Electrical System Design
- Develop electrical designs for BESS projects, including single line diagrams (SLD), protection schemes, and power distribution systems.
- Design AC and DC electrical architectures, including battery strings, PCS (Power Conversion System), transformers, switchgear, and auxiliary systems.
- Prepare cable sizing, cable routing, voltage drop calculations, and short-circuit studies.
- Ensure optimal system performance, efficiency, reliability, and safety.
1. Engineering Documentation
- Prepare and review electrical design documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Develop
- Single Line Diagrams (SLD)
- General Arrangement (GA) drawings
- Cable schedules
- Panel layouts
- Earthing & lightning protection layouts
- Bill of Materials (BOM)
- Maintain engineering document control and revision management.
1. Compliance & Standards Management
- Ensure designs comply with relevant national and international standards such as:
- IEC
- IEEE
- NEC/NFPA
- IS Standards
- Utility/Grid Code requirements
- Adhere to safety regulations and environmental requirements.
1. Grid Integration & Protection Design
- Design grid interconnection systems for utility-scale and commercial BESS projects.
- Coordinate protection settings and relay selection.
- Perform power system studies including:
- Load flow analysis
- Short circuit analysis
- Arc flash studies
- Protection coordination studies
- Support grid compliance and utility approval activities.
1. Technical Evaluation & Vendor Coordination
- Evaluate electrical equipment specifications and vendor proposals.
- Review and approve vendor drawings and datasheets.
- Coordinate with suppliers for batteries, PCS, transformers, switchgear, EMS, and SCADA systems.
- Support technical negotiations and equipment selection.
1. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with:
- Mechanical Design
- Controls & Automation
- Project Management
- Procurement
- Manufacturing
- Commissioning teams
- Support design optimization and project execution activities.
1. Installation & Commissioning Support
- Provide technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning.
- Resolve electrical engineering issues during project execution.
- Review site commissioning reports and test results.
- Support FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) and SAT (Site Acceptance Test).
1. Risk Assessment & Quality Assurance
- Conduct design reviews, FMEA, and risk assessments.
- Identify potential electrical and safety risks early in project development.
- Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives.
1. Cost Optimization
- Optimize designs for cost, performance, and manufacturability.
- Support value engineering and standardization initiatives.
- Reduce project execution costs through efficient electrical system design.
1. Technology Development & Innovation
- Stay updated on emerging BESS technologies, battery chemistry
