Role Overview:
We are looking for a UAV Technician with a mechanical engineering or related technical background to support the assembly, integration, testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and field deployment of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).
The role combines hands-on UAV technical work with responsibility for maintaining accurate operational and technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble, integrate, inspect, and maintain UAV airframes, propulsion systems, landing gear, payload mounts and associated mechanical systems.
- Perform routine pre-flight, post-flight and preventive maintenance of UAV platforms.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and system-level issues in coordination with the engineering team.
- Carry out UAV assembly, disassembly, configuration changes, component replacement and repair activities.
- Support integration of cameras, gimbals, communication systems, batteries, navigation equipment and other payloads.
- Conduct ground testing and assist with flight-test activities.
- Maintain records of UAV maintenance, component replacements, flight hours, defects, repairs and service history.
- Support field operations, deployments, demonstrations and operational trials.
- Ensure UAVs and associated equipment are maintained in a safe, serviceable, and mission-ready condition.
- Follow established maintenance procedures, checklists, safety protocols, and operational SOPs.
Documentation & Operational Responsibilities:
- Create, maintain and update UAV maintenance logs and service records.
- Prepare pre-flight and post-flight checklists.
- Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Prepare work instructions and maintenance procedures.
- Maintain flight and mission documentation.
- Prepare equipment inspection and acceptance checklists.
- Maintain component inventory and configuration records.
- Prepare test reports and field trial reports.
- Maintain failure,
defect and troubleshooting reports.
- Maintain UAV configuration and change-control documentation.
- Prepare operational readiness and deployment documentation.
- Convert hands-on technical activities into clear, structured and professional documentation.
Qualification & Experience:
- Diploma / Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in UAVs, drones, aerospace systems, mechanical systems, robotics, automotive systems or a related field.
- Practical understanding of mechanical assemblies, tools, fasteners, bearings, motors, structures and basic electrical systems.
- Basic understanding of UAV components and flight operations is preferred.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, assembly drawings and technical documentation.
- Good troubleshooting and hands-on problem-solving skills.
- Positive written communication skills for preparing technical and operational documents.
- Willingness to travel for UAV field deployments, testing, demonstrations and operational activities.
Preferred Skills:
- Prior experience working with multirotor or fixed-wing UAVs.
- Familiarity with UAV flight controllers, propulsion systems, batteries, telemetry and payload integration.
- Experience with preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Basic CAD knowledge is an advantage.
- Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and documentation tools.
- Ability to work independently in field environments and coordinate with engineering and operations teams.
