BigCommerce Engineer

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced BigCommerce Engineer to design, build, and maintain our ecommerce storefront and its supporting integrations. You'll work at the intersection of frontend storefront development, backend API integrations, and platform architecture to deliver a fast, reliable, and conversion-focused shopping experience.

What You'll Do

Develop and maintain custom storefronts using BigCommerce's Stencil framework (Handlebars, SCSS, JavaScript)

Build and extend features using the BigCommerce Storefront API, Catalog API, and Checkout

Integrate BigCommerce with third-party systems (ERP, CRM, PIM, OMS, payment gateways, tax engines, shipping providers) via REST/GraphQL APIs

Customize checkout flows, cart logic, and post-purchase experiences

Build and maintain BigCommerce apps or private apps using webhooks, scripts, and the App Marketplace framework where needed

Optimize site performance, Core Web Vitals, and mobile responsiveness

Collaborate with designers, product managers, and merchandising teams to translate requirements into technical solutions

Troubleshoot production issues across storefront, backend integrations, and third-party services

Write clean, tested, well-documented code and participate in code reviews

Stay current with BigCommerce platform updates, API changes, and ecommerce best practices

Required Qualifications





3+ years of experience building and customizing BigCommerce storefronts (custom development)

Experience with developing microservices using Kotlin , following a Test Driven Development approach

Hands-on experience with BigCommerce's REST and GraphQL APIs (Catalog, Orders, Customers, Checkout)

Experience integrating BigCommerce with external systems (ERP, CRM, marketing platforms, payment/shipping providers)

Solid understanding of ecommerce concepts: cart/checkout flow, product catalog structure, pricing rules, promotions, and order lifecycle

Familiarity with headless/composable commerce approaches (if using BigCommerce as headless backend)

Experience with version control (Git) and contemporary development workflows (CI/CD)

Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across frontend and backend layers

Nice to Have

Experience with BigCommerce's Catalyst (Next.js) framework for headless storefronts

Familiarity with Node.js, React, or other JS frameworks

Background with other ecommerce platforms (Shopify Plus, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Magento, SAP Commerce) for context/migration work

BigCommerce certifications (e.g., BigCommerce Developer Certification)

Experience with A/B testing tools, personalization engines

Knowledge of SEO best practices for ecommerce

- Experience in a B2B ecommerce environment (customer groups, price lists, quoting)
