JOB SUMMARY
A value-added knitwear export company in Tiruppur is seeking a strong and highly experienced Senior Quality Manager to take complete ownership of quality assurance from fabric and pre-production through cutting, sewing, value addition, finishing, packing, final inspection and shipment release.
The candidate must build a preventive quality system, not merely identify defects at the end of production. The person will lead the complete quality team, control internal and external production, manage buyer and third-party inspections, investigate failures and ensure that only conforming goods are presented for inspection or shipment.
The Quality Head will have independent authority to stop fabric, production, processing, packing or shipment where buyer requirements are not being met.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
PRE-PRODUCTION QUALITY
- Review buyer manuals, tech packs, approved samples, measurements, workmanship and testing requirements Conduct technical risk assessment before bulk production Participate in development, fit, size-set, pre-production and pilot-run reviews Lead pre-production meetings and issue clear quality checkpoints Verify that approved samples, patterns, specifications, trims, artwork, wash standards and test reports are available before production Identify high-risk operations, measurements, materials and value-added processes in advance Establish style-wise quality plans, inspection standards and defect classifications Ensure bulk production does not begin without the required approvals
FABRIC AND TRIMS QUALITY
- Review fabric inspection, shade, GSM, width, shrinkage, spirality, skew, bowing and test status Ensure fabric is inspected and approved before release to cutting Control shade grouping, lot segregation and panel-to-panel shade continuity Review fabric and garment test reports against buyer requirements Ensure trims, labels, zippers, buttons, elastics, drawcords, thread and packing materials are approved and tested where required Prevent unauthorised or unapproved materials from entering production Coordinate with knitting, dyeing and fabric teams on technical quality failures
CUTTING AND SEWING QUALITY
- Control marker, pattern, shrinkage allowance, lay, cutting accuracy, numbering and bundling Approve first cut panels and first production output Establish inline, end-line and random inspection systems Monitor workmanship, construction, measurements, SPI, seam strength, appearance and operation quality Control DHU, rejection, alteration, repair and right-first-time performance Identify recurring defects and implement immediate corrective action at source Ensure defects are not passed from one operation or department to another Conduct regular floor audits and verify the effectiveness of quality controllers Coordinate with production and IE teams without compromising quality standards
VALUE-ADDITION AND JOB-WORK QUALITY
- Control quality at printing, embroidery, garment dyeing, washing, spray, laser and other processing units Approve first bulk output before balance production proceeds Verify placement, colour, appearance, hand feel, fastness,
measurements and bulk consistency Conduct inspections at external job-work units during critical production Ensure goods are not returned from vendors without proper quality and quantity verification Investigate and document vendor-related failures Recommend corrective action, rejection, reprocessing, claim or debit based on evidence
FINISHING, PACKING AND FINAL INSPECTION
- Establish finishing, ironing, measurement, metal-detection and packing controls Ensure approved folding, labels, tags, assortment, ratio, carton marking and packing method Control final measurements, appearance, cleanliness, workmanship and presentation Conduct internal final inspection according to applicable buyer AQL requirements Ensure the offered quantity is complete, accurate and inspection-ready Coordinate buyer, buying-office and third-party inspections Prevent goods from being offered for inspection unless internal quality clearance is complete Review failed inspections and implement immediate containment and corrective action Release goods for shipment only after all quality requirements are satisfied
QUALITY SYSTEM AND TEAM MANAGEMENT
- Lead QA managers, quality controllers, checkers and measurement teams Define responsibilities and daily accountability for every quality employee Establish maker-checker and escalation systems for critical approvals Maintain inspection reports, approval records, defect analysis, CAPA and style-wise quality files Analyse DHU, rejection, alteration, final inspection and customer-complaint trends Conduct root-cause analysis and corrective and preventive action Train production and quality teams on buyer standards and recurring defects Maintain complete traceability from fabric lot through finished shipment Support buyer technical visits, quality audits and factory assessments Submit accurate daily and weekly quality reports to management Immediately escalate any issue that may affect inspection, shipment or buyer acceptance Ensure quality decisions are based on documented facts and not production pressure
CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
- Investigate buyer complaints, returns, claims and inspection failures Prepare professional root-cause and CAPA reports within the required timeline Verify that corrective actions are implemented and sustained Reduce recurring defects, rework, rejection and inspection failures Work with production, merchandising, fabric and technical teams to improve right-first-time performance Build a strong quality culture throughout the factory and external supply chain
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
- Diploma or degree in Garment Technology, Textile Technology, Apparel Manufacturing or a related field Minimum 15 years of garment quality experience At least 5 years as a Senior Quality Manager, QA Head or comparable leadership position Export-oriented knitted garment experience is compulsory Strong experience with international buyers, buying offices and third-party inspections Strong knowledge of garment construction, measurements, workmanship, patterns and sewing operations Strong knowledge of fabric, trims, printing, embroidery, garment washing and value-added processes Practical knowledge of AQL, inline,
end-line and final inspection systems Proven experience leading a complete factory-quality team Ability to conduct technical risk assessment and prevent failures before production Experience handling buyer complaints, inspection failures, root-cause analysis and CAPA Ability to work independently and stop non-conforming production when required Strong written and spoken English; working knowledge of Tamil preferred Must be willing to work full-time from Tiruppur and visit job-work units when required
REPORTING AND AUTHORITY
The Senior Quality Manager will report to the Factory Operations Head and management but will exercise independent quality-release authority.
Production pressure will not override documented buyer or quality requirements.
The Quality Head must approve:
- Fabric release to cutting Pre-production and first bulk output Critical value-added processes Internal final inspection Goods offered for buyer or third-party inspection Final quality release for shipment

COMPENSATION
Senior compensation, fully negotiable for an exceptional candidate based on experience, technical capability and previous responsibilities.
