The role requires strong knowledge of electrical systems, industrial motors, VFDs, control panels, PLC interfaces, and industrial communication.

Key Responsibilities

1. VFD Installation & Commissioning

- Install and commission VFDs at industrial customer sites.
- Perform VFD parameter setting, autotuning, motor identification, and functional testing.
- Configure acceleration/deceleration, speed references, current limits, protections, PID control, and application-specific parameters.
- Verify motor rotation, motor current, frequency, speed, and operating conditions.
- Commission VFD panels, MCC interfaces, bypass arrangements, and associated control circuits.
- Prepare commissioning reports and parameter backup records.

2. VFD Troubleshooting & Service

- Diagnose VFD faults, alarms, trips, and abnormal operating conditions.
- Troubleshoot overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, overload, earth fault, communication, overheating, and motor-related problems.
- Analyze fault history and drive parameters to identify root causes.
- Troubleshoot VFD control wiring, feedback signals, digital/analog I/O, and interlocks.
- Carry out site-level corrective maintenance and emergency breakdown support.
- Coordinate with the technical team for complex drive failures and component-level issues.

3. Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance

- Conduct preventive maintenance of VFDs and drive panels.
- Inspect cooling fans, heat sinks, DC bus condition, terminals, cables, contactors, fuses, and control components.
- Check electrical connections, insulation, earthing, and ventilation.
- Perform VFD health checks and recommend replacement of aging or defective components.
- Maintain service history and preventive maintenance records.

4. PLC & Industrial Automation Interface

- Understand VFD integration with PLC, HMI, SCADA, and DCS systems.
- Troubleshoot start/stop commands, speed references, analog signals,

and feedback signals between PLC and VFD.
- Work with 420 mA, 0–10 V, digital I/O, Modbus RTU/TCP, Profibus/Profinet, Ethernet/IP and similar industrial communication interfaces.
- Coordinate with automation engineers for PLC-VFD communication and control issues.

5. Electrical & Motor Troubleshooting

- Understand three-phase AC motors, motor starters, MCCs, contactors, overload relays, circuit breakers, and control circuits.
- Perform basic motor and cable checks using multimeter, clamp meter, insulation tester, and other electrical test instruments.
- Identify whether a fault originates from the VFD, motor, cable, power supply, control system, or application.
- Provide technical recommendations for correct VFD and motor operation.

6. Customer Support

- Visit customer sites for installation, commissioning, breakdown service, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Communicate technical issues and solutions clearly to customers.
- Provide technical recommendations for improving drive reliability and performance.
- Support customers through telephone/remote troubleshooting when required.
- Maintain professional customer relationships.

7. Documentation & Reporting

- Prepare service reports, commissioning reports, inspection reports, and troubleshooting reports.
- Maintain VFD parameter backup and configuration records.
- Record service activities, spare parts used, and recommendations.
- Provide feedback to the sales and engineering teams regarding recurring technical issues and customer requirements.
