Job Summary
Bhawana is a greenfield build - You will help design and ship the Bhawana Loan Management System (LMS), the central platform Bhawana Capital uses to manage loans originated through Lending Service Providers (LSPs) in India. The stack spans partner APIs, an internal operations UI, LSP self-service screens, automated underwriting, disbursement, EMI servicing, and regulatory reporting.
The team is small, senior, and moves rapid. We work in a spec-first, AI-augmented way: specifications are authored with AI assistance (Spec Kit), code is written and reviewed with AI copilots in the loop, and we expect every developer to use these tools fluently to raise their throughput and quality - not replace their judgement.
Responsibilities
- Together with Lead Engineer and Tech Lead, design and build the LMS end-to-end - Java/Spring backend services and React operations/partner UIs - on the latest technologies.
- Deliver production-grade code: pull-request reviews, high test coverage and production observability (Kibana, Elastic APM, Prometheus/Grafana).
- Work effectively with AI coding assistants - use them to accelerate implementation, review, refactoring, and documentation while remaining accountable for the correctness, security, and maintainability of everything that ships.
- Contribute to the spec-first workflow: read and refine feature specifications, break specs into JIRA stories, flag missing scope early.
- Own features across the stack - from Kafka event contracts and REST endpoints down to the React screens partner staff and Bhawana operators actually use.
- Go the extra mile: stay current on tooling and techniques (including AI tooling), share what you learn, and push technical improvements proactively.
Required skills and experience
- 5+ years building production systems in Java (17+) and the Spring ecosystem (Boot, REST, JPA/Data, Security, Integration). You know why @Transactional is more subtle than it looks, you have debugged classloader and GC issues in anger,
and you can reason about JVM behaviour under load.
- 3+ years of hands-on React user interfaces - not prototypes, not admin screens generated from a template. You understand rendering, state, forms at scale, accessibility, and the cost of every dependency you add.
- Demonstrable fluency with AI coding assistants (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor, Codex, or equivalent) as part of your daily workflow - able to prompt effectively, review AI output critically, and know when not to trust it.
- Clean-code habits: patterns/anti-patterns awareness, well-structured, testable, maintainable, documented code.
- Distributed-systems maturity - you reason about failure modes, retries, backoff, poison messages, and what happens when the network partitions during a disbursement. Youve built and operated microservices in production and know when not to use them.
- Solid grasp of REST API design, integrations, refactoring, secure coding, APM and troubleshooting.
- Understanding JIRA and able to write specifications there with Acceptance Criteria.
- Hands-on experience with asynchronous messaging (Kafka or other).
- Analytical and problem-solving skills - able to break down complex domain problems and communicate solutions clearly.
- 6+ years in lending technology or NBFC/bank ops-tech roles, with at least one LMS/LOS implementation done end to end (FinnOne, Pennant, Lentra, M2P, Finflux or similar - lender side or vendor side).
- Knows the RBI digital lending guidelines well enough to spec a KFS or an FLDG ledger without being handed the circular.
- Strong team player, comfortable working independently, solid written and spoken English.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with microservice architecture, event sourcing, distributed systems, authentication (OAuth 2.0 / OIDC).
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS or B2B2C platforms (partner isolation, tenant-scoped data access).
- Financial-services or lending-domain background (loans, EMI, disbursement, DPD, collections).
- Working knowledge of: Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, Camunda BPM, Kotlin, Liquibase, Kibana, Elastic APM, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, Prometheus, Grafana.
- Frontend depth: state management (Redux Toolkit / Zustand / React Query), component libraries, accessibility, i18n.
- Experience with spec-driven or contract-first development (OpenAPI, AsyncAPI, Avro).
- Comfort with Gitflow, SonarQube, Maven/Gradle, Swagger/OpenAPI, JIRA, GitHub.
What this role is not
- Not a vibecoding job. We dont ship prompt output blindly, we dont measure velocity by tokens, and we dont accept "the AI wrote it" as an answer in review, we are working in highly regulated sector.
- Not ticket-in / PR-out. Youll be expected to influence architecture, not just implement it.
- Not front-of-house UI polish. The React work is operational and partner-facing; correctness and clarity matter more than pixel perfection.
What we offer
- Greenfield project - you shape the architecture, not fight legacy.
- Senior, spec-driven team where AI tooling is embraced, not tolerated.
- Direct impact on a regulated financial product entering a major new market.
- Modern stack, minimal ceremony, code review culture that raises the bar.
We offer:
- A Truly Global Workplace - collaborate with 40+ nationalities across 25+ countries, embracing diversity, inclusion,
