The Core Engineering
The Core Engineering builds and operates the platforms, applications, data solutions, models, and analytics that power critical processes for The Core divisions of the firm (e.g., Risk, responsible for the risk profile of firm activities; Controllers, responsible for the financial control and reporting obligations; Compliance, responsible for the firm’s compliance, regulatory, and reputational risks; Corporate Treasury, responsible for the firm’s liquidity, funding, balance sheet, etc.; and Human Capital Management, responsible for attracting, developing, and managing a global workforce). A centralized engineering structure in support of The Core enables a common platform model and operating framework that promotes consistent governance and scalable solutions, leveraging cloud, AI, and machine learning for innovation and efficiency. The Core Engineering’s 2,000+ engineers and strats deliver engineering, data, analytics, and quantitative capabilities within six business units:
- Metrics & Analytics Platforms: responsible for the measurement and management of the firm’s risk, capital, and liquidity for The Core functions
- The Core Strats: responsible for the development and implementation of models and other quantitative methodologies, including the accuracy and attribution of modeled metrics
- Financials & Reporting: responsible for facilitating the production of the firm’s financials and a wide range of reporting functions
- Non-Financial Risk & Controls: responsible for non-financial risk and control processes
- Enterprise Platforms: responsible for platforms and applications that support critical operational processes across The Core such as payments, people processes, and procurement
- Shared Services: responsible for driving the adoption of consistent engineering strategy, including data platforms, cloud, and AI enablement, as well as the management of technology risk

The Core Engineering has the primary responsibility of calculating withholding and Tax liability for the clients across all business units in the firm. Additionally the team also handles client documentation and regulatory information reporting. Sedona is a high volume transaction processing application that centralizes the Tax logic and is responsible for calculating withholding & tax in real time, in addition to facilitating the timely reporting of the millions of transactions to the various tax authorities, globally.
Requirements
- Design and architecture systems for The Core functions (including client documentation, reporting and tax withholding) with high scalability, high throughput, and large amounts of data
- Contribute to the technical design of the strategic engine by evaluating and employing
- Distributed Caching implementations for Multi-threaded and Concurrent Highly-Scalable processing.
- Complex Matching Algorithms for highly flexible, optimized and extremely fast matching
- Organizations enterprise platforms including Forms Engine and Data Lake
- Design and Implement user workflows using BPMN notation
- Manage project deliverables and tasks during development, user acceptance (UAT) and production implementation phases
- Manage user requirements, testing cycles and perform change management duties
- Develop highly scalable, resilient distributed systems using service oriented paradigms
- Perform memory,
thread and CPU profiling of all core features for high volume processing and preform process analysis using JProfiler and VisualVM, jMap, jStack, jConsole
- Manage regulatory deliverables within a fast changing environment
- Work closely with the global counterparts (both technology & user teams) and other technology communities in the firm as part of team charged with managing global tax requirements for GS clients
Qualifications
- 3+ years of Java development
- 1+ years of service oriented architecture development
- Knowledge of Web UI technologies like React and Angular
- Familiarity with Spring Frameworks
- Solid skill in databases like DB2, Sybase IQ, MongoDB
- Knowledge of BPMN modelling and designing
- 1+ years of experience implementing systems with automated testing using junit, fitnesse, karate, etc.
Preferred
- Experience in Financial Services/Industry
- Messaging related technologies such as JMS, Apache Kafka
