Job Description
No one here is going to ask you to make the logo bigger.

We're hiring a graphic designer at 1AM. If you've spent a few years watching decent work get sanded down in review calls, this one's worth reading properly.

1AM is cold coffee in a 230ml can. Five variants, zero added sugar, retort-processed so it holds nine months on a shelf with no fridge anywhere in the chain, which is a harder thing to pull off than it sounds. It's why we can sit in quick commerce, up-to-date trade, campus and corporate vending and highway retail all at once. The brand is where the interesting work is now.
n
n
Our position is that this whole category shouts and we don't. Look at the can and your first reaction might be that there's a lot of empty space on it. Correct. Restraint is the entire idea, and it's harder to execute than a busy layout because there's nowhere to hide a weak decision.
n
n
You wouldn't be starting from zero or working alone. There's a film crew producing our hero work out of Kashmir, two editors on the cut, a co-founder running campus, a CBO on the commercial side. What's missing is one person who owns how all of it looks.
n

The work. Cans and cartons. The gifting range, which is the piece I'm most particular about - rigid box, magnetic flip-top hinged at the back, a fitted insert tray, and a second layer underneath that nobody expects when they open it. That one lands for Diwali, so it's live from your first week. Then the trade material,
the brochures and catalogues a distributor flips through while deciding whether we're a serious company, and that judgement gets made fast. And the feed.
n
n
Now the part that actually matters, and the reason I'm writing this myself rather than handing it to a recruiter. My job is to take things out of your way, not to stand in it. You'd speak to the printer directly.
n
n
You'd speak to the box vendor directly. You'd get the constraint and the deadline and then be left alone to solve it. One opinion to deal with, mine, not seven from a committee, and you're allowed to argue with mine and win. The fastest way to lose a good designer is to make them ask permission for things, and I've been on both sides of that enough to know it.
n
n
Who this is for. Someone with real years behind them who has owned something end to end and can talk about why they made a call, not only what they made. Packaging or FMCG counts for a lot, print behaves nothing like a screen and it shows up immediately. If your work is strong and print is new to you, tell me that upfront, I'd rather know than find out at plate stage.
n
n
Gurgaon, hybrid. In for press checks, box samples and shoots. Wherever you like the rest of the time.
n
n
And if you've been at this long enough to know you do your best work freelance, say so. Send the CV and the work, and we'll take a call on it then.
