Position Summary
The Associate Professor – Statistics (Data Science) at UNSW Bengaluru is a senior academic role responsible for providing leadership in teaching, research, curriculum development, and academic service within the School of Science and Engineering. The role contributes to the academic development of the campus by delivering high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, leading curriculum innovation, mentoring academic staff, and advancing internationally recognised research aligned with UNSW's global academic standards and the University Grants Commission (UGC) regulatory framework. The Associate Professor is expected to maintain a strong research profile in Statistics and Data Science, contribute to academic governance, foster interdisciplinary collaborations, build partnerships with industry and external organisations, and support the University's strategic priorities. The appointee will play a key role in promoting excellence in teaching, research, student success, and academic quality while contributing to the development of a high-performing academic culture at UNSW Bengaluru.
Preference will be given to global/international faculty with teaching experience outside of India.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate Statistics and Data Science programs while promoting excellence in learning and teaching.
- Provide academic leadership in curriculum design, development, delivery, and continuous review across Statistics and Data Science programs.
- Coordinate course delivery across teaching teams, ensuring consistency in curriculum implementation, assessment standards, moderation, and student learning outcomes.
- Design and continuously improve curriculum, assessment strategies, learning resources, and innovative teaching practices aligned with UNSW standards and UGC regulatory requirements.
- Integrate educational technologies, statistical software, programming tools (such as R and Python), and blended learning approaches into teaching.
- Supervise undergraduate, postgraduate, and research projects while fostering analytical thinking, statistical reasoning, and data-driven problem-solving skills.
- Maintain a strong research profile through publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international conferences.
- Lead collaborative research initiatives and contribute to securing competitive research funding from government, industry, and international funding agencies.
- Develop interdisciplinary research collaborations across UNSW campuses and with national and international academic institutions.
- Supervise Honours, Master's, and Ph.D. students and mentor early-career researchers where appropriate.
- Mentor junior academic staff through peer review, teaching support, curriculum development, and research guidance.
- Participate in strategic planning, academic governance, curriculum review, accreditation activities, and University committees.
- Lead quality assurance initiatives informed by student feedback, graduate outcomes, and industry expectations.
- Uphold academic integrity and ensure compliance with UNSW policies, UGC regulations, and academic quality frameworks.
- Build partnerships with industry, government agencies, research organisations, healthcare organisations, financial institutions, and professional bodies to strengthen research, consultancy, and student engagement.
- Promote interdisciplinary collaboration across Statistics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Engineering, and Business disciplines.
- Represent UNSW Bengaluru in academic, professional, and industry forums, conferences, workshops, and outreach activities.
- Promote an inclusive academic culture and contribute to equity, diversity, inclusion, and student wellbeing initiatives.
- Ensure safe, ethical, and compliant academic practices across teaching, research, supervision, and data management.
Qualifications & Selection Criteria
- Ph.D. in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematical Sciences,
or a closely related discipline from a globally recognised university.
- Demonstrated record of academic excellence with significant achievements in teaching, research, and scholarly activities.
- Strong research profile with publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and evidence of national and international recognition.
- Demonstrated expertise in Statistics, Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Statistical Computing, or related analytical disciplines.
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate Statistics and Data Science programs.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum design, program development, assessment design, and continuous curriculum improvement.
- Experience implementing innovative pedagogical approaches, educational technologies, and blended or online learning.
- Demonstrated success in supervising Honours, Master's, and Ph.D. students.
- Evidence of securing or contributing to competitive research funding and team-oriented research projects.
- Demonstrated leadership in curriculum innovation, academic governance, quality assurance, and accreditation activities.
- Evidence of engagement with industry, government agencies, research organisations, and professional bodies relevant to Statistics, Data Science, Analytics, or Artificial Intelligence.
- Excellent communication, leadership, interpersonal, mentoring, and organisational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build cooperative relationships across disciplines and multicultural academic environments.
