Patient Assessment & Preparation
Conduct preliminary vision tests, including visual acuity, tonometry, and field of vision screenings.
Administer prescribed ocular medications, such as dilating drops and topical anesthetics, prior to the doctor's examination.
Record detailed patient medical histories and document current symptoms in the electronic medical records (EMR) system.
Surgical & Procedure Assistance
Prepare operating theaters (OT) and minor procedure rooms, ensuring all specific ophthalmic instruments are sterile and ready.
Assist ophthalmologists directly during minor procedures and major eye surgeries (e.g., cataract removal, LASIK, vitrectomies).
Monitor patient vital signs and comfort levels before, during, and immediately after procedures.
Patient Education & Care
Counsel patients and their families on pre-operative requirements and post-operative care instructions.
Demonstrate the correct technique for self-administering eye drops and ointments.
Triage post-operative concerns and escalate emergency symptoms to the consulting doctor.
Equipment Management & Compliance
Perform routine maintenance and sterilization of delicate diagnostic and surgical eye equipment.
Maintain strict adherence to clinical infection control protocols and standard operating procedures.
Manage inventory for the nursing station, ensuring adequate stock of lenses, surgical supplies, and medications.
