An ITI Fitter is responsible for assembling, fitting, installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical equipment and machinery in industries such as manufacturing, construction, power plants, automobile, and maintenance workshops.
Key Responsibilities
Read and understand engineering drawings and blueprints
Assemble machine parts and mechanical components
Perform fitting, drilling, cutting, grinding, and alignment work
Install and maintain industrial machinery and equipment
Check dimensions using measuring instruments like vernier calipers and micrometers
Repair faulty mechanical systems and replace damaged parts
Conduct preventive maintenance activities
Ensure workplace safety and follow company SOPs
Maintain tools and equipment properly
Required Skills
Knowledge of mechanical fitting and fabrication
Ability to read technical drawings
Basic welding and machining knowledge
Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Attention to detail
Teamwork and communication skills
Qualification
ITI Certificate in Fitter Trade from a recognized institute
Apprenticeship experience preferred

0–3 years (depending on company requirements)
