The company has a partnership with Honda for EV battery-swapping technology and is in series production with multiple EV OEMs. Backed by institutional investors including UC Impower, Catamaran, and Transition VC, Matel is now accelerating its next phase of growth — expanding manufacturing capacity, entering the electric commercial vehicle segment, deepening its R&D; infrastructure, and building its international footprint across global markets.

Duties and Responsibilities

What You'll Own

1. End-to-end quality ownership for powertrain systems — motor, inverter, gearbox/e-axle, and integrated assembly

2. Define and drive the quality management system across design, supplier, incoming, in-process, and outgoing quality (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans)

3. Own field quality and warranty performance — drive DPPM reduction, root-cause analysis (8D/5-Why), and closed-loop corrective actions

4. Lead supplier quality management — audits, capability assessments, and development for critical HV/electro-mechanical components

Drive New Product Introduction (NPI) quality — ensuring design robustness, DFMEA/PFMEA, and validation before ramp-up

6. Own functional safety and compliance — ISO 26262, IATF 16949, and high-voltage safety/testing standards

7. Build and lead test and validation strategy — HALT/HASS, environmental, EMI/EMC, endurance, and HV safety testing

8. Partner with design, manufacturing, and production teams to embed quality upstream, not just inspect it downstream

9. Report quality KPIs, cost of poor quality (COPQ), and risk exposure directly to leadership

10. Build, mentor, and scale a strong quality engineering and inspection team

Other Essential Requirements/Skills

What You Bring

1. Bachelor's/Master's in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering

2. 12+ years in automotive/EV quality roles, with strong exposure to powertrain, motor, or power electronics quality

3. Deep expertise in IATF 16949, ISO 26262, APQP/PPAP, FMEA, and statistical quality tools (SPC, Six Sigma)

4. Proven track record driving DPPM and warranty cost reduction at scale

5. Strong experience in supplier quality management for high-voltage/electro-mechanical components

6. Hands-on understanding of powertrain testing — HV safety, thermal, endurance, EMI/EMC

7. Solid cross-functional leadership — able to hold design and production accountable without slowing the program down

8. Data-driven, root-cause-first mindset

Bonus Points

1. Experience launching quality systems for a new EV powertrain program from scratch

2. Six Sigma Black Belt / Master Black Belt certification

3. Exposure to battery pack or high-voltage system quality standards

4. Experience with functional safety audits (ISO 26262 ASIL-rated systems)
