ROLE OVERVIEW

We are looking for a Pedagogy Expert – Foundational Learning to strengthen the
learning design behind WAIG’s foundational education tools, including Oral
Reading Fluency (ORF) and other AI-enabled literacy and assessment solutions.

The consultant will bring deep expertise in foundational learning solutions,
reading fluency, language acquisition, and assessment design, with the ability
to adapt these concepts for public education contexts across Africa.

This role is ideal for someone who understands how children learn English as an




additional or second language, and can translate that understanding into
practical product guidance, content frameworks, assessment logic, and
classroom-ready learning tools.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. STRENGTHEN ENGLISH LEARNING PEDAGOGY

* Define pedagogical principles for early-grade English learning tools

* Build learning progressions for reading, listening, speaking, and
comprehension

* Ensure tools reflect how children acquire English in multilingual contexts

* Ground solution design in evidence-based literacy and language learning
practices

2. DESIGN FOUNDATIONAL LITERACY & ORF FRAMEWORKS

* Develop frameworks for oral reading fluency, decoding, vocabulary, and
comprehension

* Define indicators for accuracy, pace, expression, pronunciation, and
meaning-making

* Support design of grade-level texts, prompts, rubrics, and benchmarks

* Ensure assessment tasks are developmentally appropriate and instructionally
use
