SAP S/4 HANA Tax specialist - India Tax, Legal & Statutory Lead
We are seeking an experienced India Tax, Legal & Statutory Lead to support a global SAP S/4HANA rollout for a leading renewable energy business.
This is a key business-facing role responsible for ensuring India's tax, legal and statutory requirements are accurately embedded into the global S/4HANA template through the India localisation layer.
Freelance contract, immediate start, initial contract until July 2027.
Key Responsibilities
- Own India's tax, legal and statutory requirements across the S/4HANA programme
- Lead India participation in fit-to-standard and fit-gap workshops, distinguishing mandatory statutory requirements from local preferences
- Translate Indian regulatory requirements into SAP functional specifications, configuration and localisation requirements
- Provide subject-matter expertise across GST, TDS/TCS, e-invoicing, e-way bills, customs, statutory reporting and tax compliance
- Support SAP DRC/ACR, India localisation, tax determination and statutory reporting design
- Ensure alignment with Companies Act, Ind AS, ROC/MCA and relevant renewable energy/power regulations
- Define and oversee India-specific SIT/UAT scenarios, data migration, cutover and hypercare
- Review and challenge system integrator/vendor deliverables and provide compliance sign-off at key programme gates
- Manage stakeholders across global programme teams, SAP/SI partners, external advisors and Indian regulatory bodies
Experience Required
- 10–15+ years' experience in Indian tax, legal and statutory matters
- CA, CS, CMA, LLB or equivalent professional qualification
- Hands-on experience with at least one full SAP S/4HANA or ECC implementation/rollout, ideally in a role bridging Indian statutory requirements and SAP solution design
- Strong knowledge of Indian GST, withholding tax, customs and statutory reporting
- Practical understanding of SAP India localisation, DRC/ACR, e-invoicing/e-way bill integration and extended withholding tax
- Experience with SAP Activate, fit-to-standard/fit-gap, functional specifications, SIT/UAT, cutover and hypercare
- Robust stakeholder management skills and the ability to challenge global teams while protecting both regulatory compliance and global template integrity
