Position Title: Director / Sr. Director – Medical Coding I Department: Delivery Operations I Function: Medical Coding Operations I Location: Chennai / Bangalore I Shift: General Shift / Overlap with US Hours I Grade: 5A / 5B (Based on Experience)

Role Summary

The Director / Sr. Director – Medical Coding will be responsible for leading large-scale coding operations across multiple clients and service lines, ensuring delivery excellence, quality performance, operational efficiency, growth, compliance, and client satisfaction. The role will provide strategic leadership to Coding Operations, oversee P&L; performance, drive transformation initiatives, and partner with internal and external stakeholders to achieve business objectives.

The incumbent will lead large teams of coding professionals, managers, and operational leaders while ensuring sustainable growth, productivity improvement, quality excellence, and financial performance.

Responsibilities

Business Delivery & Operational Leadership

- Lead end-to-end Medical Coding operations across multiple business units and client engagements.
- Own operational performance including productivity, quality, turnaround times, client satisfaction, and financial outcomes.
- Ensure delivery excellence through robust governance, process standardization, and operational controls.
- Drive business growth by improving operational efficiencies and supporting expansion initiatives.
- Oversee workforce planning, utilization, capacity management, and operational scalability.
- Ensure adherence to client SLAs, regulatory requirements, compliance policies, and coding guidelines.
- Lead large teams of coders, auditors,



managers, and operational leaders across multiple locations.

Financial Management & P&L; Ownership

- Own and manage business unit P&L; including revenue, margins, cost optimization, and profitability.
- Monitor financial performance against business plans and budgets.
- Drive productivity improvements and operational efficiencies to improve margin performance.
- Develop business cases and ROI models for transformation and investment initiatives.
- Support leadership in strategic planning, forecasting, and business reviews.

Coding Quality & Compliance Excellence

- Ensure compliance with ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-PCS, DRG, APC, and payer-specific guidelines.
- Establish and maintain robust quality assurance and audit frameworks.
- Drive coding accuracy, quality improvement, and compliance adherence.
- Monitor quality metrics and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Partner with quality, compliance, and training teams to maintain industry-leading performance standards.

Process Excellence & Transformation

- Lead continuous improvement initiatives across Coding Operations.
- Drive automation, AI-enabled coding solutions, and digital transformation programs.
- Identify process gaps and implement sustainable solutions to improve performance.
- Utilize Lean, Six Sigma, and operational excellence methodologies to improve efficiency.
- Deliver measurable improvements in productivity, quality, turnaround time, and financial outcomes.

Client & Stakeholder Management

- Serve as executive sponsor and relationship leader for key client engagements.
- Partner with clients to understand business objectives and deliver value-based outcomes.
- Lead governance reviews, executive business reviews, and operational performance discussions.
- Collaborate with Sales, Transition, Technology, Quality, and Delivery teams to support growth initiatives.
- Influence strategic decisions through data-driven recommendations and industry expertise.

Strategic Growth & Business Development

- Support sales teams during RFPs, client presentations, due diligence activities, and solution design.
- Participate in Proof of Concepts (POCs), client visits, and transition planning activities.




- Identify opportunities for service expansion and portfolio growth.
- Drive innovation and thought leadership within the Coding practice.
- Contribute to organizational strategy and long-term business planning.

Experience

- Overall experience of 20+ years in US Healthcare Revenue Cycle Management.
- Minimum 15+ years of Medical Coding experience with proven leadership responsibility.
- Extensive experience leading large-scale Medical Coding operations with global delivery exposure.
- Strong experience in managing P&L;, revenue, margins, budgeting, and financial performance.
- Proven success in operational transformation, process excellence, and business growth initiatives.
- Experience managing large teams of 500+ to 1,000+ FTEs across coding operations.
- Demonstrated expertise in client relationship management and executive stakeholder engagement.
- Experience working with global healthcare providers, hospitals, physician groups, and health systems.
- Strong understanding of operational analytics, performance management, and workforce optimization.
- Excellent communication, executive presentation, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
