Expert Listing is Nigeria's next-generation real estate platform, built to make property discovery faster and more accessible for buyers, renters, agents, and developers across Nigeria and Africa.

We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to build the server-side backbone of our biggest product launch to date: the Expert Listing Feed — a real estate social network built natively into the platform, where agents, developers, and property owners can post properties, videos, and updates in real time.

What You will Build

The Feed backend is being built from the ground up. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will take ownership of the backend architecture, technical decisions, and execution of the platform's core Feed infrastructure.

You will work on:

· Real-time feed delivery and content distribution

· Media processing pipelines for images and video

· Image compression and video transcoding

· CDN integration and media delivery

· Geospatial filtering and location-based discovery

· Feed ranking, boosting, and recommendation logic

· Push notification infrastructure

· Search and filtering

· API design and performance optimisation

· Database architecture, indexing, and query optimisation

· Caching and performance strategies

· Infrastructure and deployment for high-traffic mobile applications

The system needs to be fast, reliable, scalable, and resilient, particularly for users accessing the platform over variable mobile networks across Nigeria and other African markets.

You are a Robust Fit If you have:

· 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience

· Deep expertise in Python and experience with Django, FastAPI, Flask, or similar frameworks

· Strong experience designing and building RESTful APIs at scale

· Experience building real-time systems using WebSockets, SSE, or equivalent technologies

· Hands-on experience with media processing pipelines, including image optimisation, video transcoding, and CDN integration





· Experience with geospatial queries and location-based filtering

· Strong PostgreSQL or equivalent database skills, including query optimisation, indexing, and database design

· Experience implementing caching strategies using Redis or equivalent technologies

· Experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, Azure, or equivalent

· Strong understanding of backend architecture, scalability, security, and system reliability

· Ability to make sound technical decisions independently and take ownership of backend systems from architecture through production

· Building production-ready systems rather than prototypes

· Working closely with frontend and product teams

· Troubleshooting and improving systems in production
