Role Summary To prepare accurate, technically compliant elevator drawings for new orders, modernization projects, and sales/pre-sales technical requirements. The role ensures that all drawings are practical for installation, aligned with product standards and applicable codes, and delivered within agreed timelines.
Key Responsibilities
A. New Order Design & Drawings
- Prepare General Arrangement (GA) drawings, shaft layout drawings, machine room layouts, pit and headroom details for new elevator orders based on site dimensions and customer requirements.
- Verify site civil dimensions, including shaft dimensions, pit depth, headroom, and machine room area, against product technical specifications and limits.
- Identify and highlight non-compliant or technically infeasible shaft conditions to the Sales and Project teams before order confirmation.
- Prepare layout drawings for traction, hydraulic, and Machine Room-Less (MRL) elevator configurations based on project requirements.
- Issue drawings for customer/architect approval and incorporate revisions within the defined Turnaround Time (TAT).
- Coordinate with Factory/Production and Engineering teams to ensure component specifications and technical requirements are correctly reflected before drawing finalization.
- Maintain proper drawing version control and revision history.
- Release approved Good for Construction (GFC) drawings to site execution teams.
B. Modernization Design & Drawings
- Conduct or interpret site survey data for existing elevator installations proposed for modernization.
- Prepare retrofit and compatibility drawings for new equipment, including controllers, machines, cars, doors, and other components,
considering existing shaft, rail, and structural constraints.
- Identify structural and dimensional conflicts between existing civil conditions and the proposed modernization scope.
- Recommend suitable design modifications or technical workarounds to resolve identified constraints.
- Prepare before-and-after layout comparisons for customer and internal technical approval.
- Support preparation of technical documentation required for statutory inspections and approvals following modernization.
C. Sales Query & Pre-Sales Technical Support
- Provide quick technical feasibility assessments for new sales enquiries, including shaft size, pit depth, headroom, machine room availability, and other critical dimensions.
- Prepare preliminary and budgetary GA drawings to support sales proposals, tenders, and customer presentations.
- Support the Sales team in addressing technical queries from architects, consultants, and customers during the enquiry-to-order stage.
- Identify technically non-viable or high-risk enquiries at an early stage to minimize order cancellations, installation issues, and re-engineering costs.
- Maintain and update standard drawing templates, technical datasheets, and design references to support faster sales turnaround.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Diploma / ITI in Mechanical, Civil,
or Electrical Engineering. A Degree in Engineering is preferred for senior-level positions.
- Experience: Minimum 5–8 years of experience in elevator industry drafting/design, with hands-on exposure to both new installation and modernization drawings.
- Experience in sales/pre-sales technical drawing support will be an added advantage.
- Working knowledge of relevant elevator codes and standards, including:
- EN 81-20 / EN 81-50
- IS 14665
- Applicable local lift safety regulations and statutory requirements.
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD 2D; knowledge of 3D CAD / Autodesk Inventor is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of elevator shaft, pit, headroom, machine room, and structural interface requirements.
- Knowledge of structural loading points and civil interface requirements for elevator installations.
- Familiarity with traction, hydraulic, and Machine Room-Less (MRL) elevator systems.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, civil, and structural drawings and cross-check them against elevator technical requirements.
- Basic understanding of electrical layouts and requirements, including controller location, machine room power supply, and electrical interfaces, for effective coordination with electrical/engineering teams.
- Strong attention to detail, drawing accuracy, revision control, and technical documentation.
- Ability to work effectively with Sales, Engineering, Production, Project, Site, and Customer/Architect teams.
- Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to deliver drawings within defined TAT and project timelines.
